We recommend renting a car to explore the island and visit nearby towns like Barra de Navidad and Melaque. While there are some local transportation options, having a car provides the freedom to discover hidden beaches, local restaurants, and other attractions at your own pace. If you’d like help arranging a rental, feel free to reach out! Of all the things to do here, nothing compares to watching the sun set over the ocean. My favourite place is Playa del Coco. The beach stretches on forever, making it perfect for a sunset walk. Between December and March, keep your eyes on the horizon, you’ll almost certainly spot humpback whales, sometimes daily! Dolphins often make appearances too, so it always feels like the ocean is alive with surprises. And if you’re lucky enough to visit between November and May, don’t miss the chance to release baby sea turtles right on Playa del Coco. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience! One of my favorites is La Palmera Negra on Playa del Coco. On weekends they have live music, and the menu is full of gems—bacon-wrapped jalapeños, coconut shrimp, and hands-down the best margaritas I’ve ever had here.
