Designed by the owner Conrad Scheffer from Conrad Scheffer Architects in Walvis bay, Namibia. The company started in 2021 by buying a residential house and a big creative design dream! de Baken boast in a lot of hand crafted components, recycled and up cycled building components/materials that formed one of the major project pillars while striving to establish sustainable architecture. This approach, to work with what you have or what you can locally source (however odd), somehow created its own character and special feeling. We offer single units or two-bedroom units each with its personal BBQ (braai) and secure parking.

De Baken is a unique self-catering establishment in Walvis Bay, Namibia. It boasts colorful and spacious units, each specifically designed with their own flare. At de Baken, we are driven to deliver a unique experience through a combination of design aesthetics and comfortable, safe and well-kitted self-catering units. Most of the top restaurants and bars are located in the Waterfront area only 0.3 miles away. You can walk along the Lagoon and find many of these spots within a few minutes. Some of the visitors favorite activities like stand-up paddle boarding, kite surfing and kayaking are also found at the Lagoon. Come experience our unique service offering. Whether it's business, leisure or simply for the love of art - we'll have it all for you!

Neighborhood info

One block away from the Lagoon, we offer a unique experience, sheltered from Walvis Bay winds, but still close enough to walk with your gear to kite surf. The lagoon attracts a range of coastal water birds and enormous flocks of lesser and greater flamingos, a photographers dream. For the Fitness guru this is a fitness dream right by the esplanade. The Waterfront is 0.3 miles away offering the best seafood in a variety of restaurants. Very quiet and safe neighborhood.
