Escape to a Serene Jungle Cabin on Ometepe Island
Discover your own off-grid private cabin nestled among fruit trees and lush gardens, where the peaceful rhythms of island life set the tone for your stay. The cabin is fully private, with a cozy outdoor shower and the option to enjoy a bonfire under the stars. Wake up to birdsong, explore the island’s volcanoes, lagoon, and jungle trails by day, and return to a tranquil space filled with harmony, guitars for music, and the gentle energy of our permaculture and syntropic forestry farm. We’re happy to give guests a farm tour and answer all questions about permaculture practices in a tropical climate.
A Note on Remoteness:
Our cabin is tucked away in nature. It’s perfect for light travelers and adventure seekers. Bring manageable luggage for the walk from the parking area.
Highlights & Guest Info:
- The cabin is part of a small eco-farm (currently 2 of us living here); you share the community kitchen, composting toilet, and solar-powered electricity in common areas.
- Breakfast is available upon request (organic, farm to table style).
- The property features chickens, ducks, and two friendly dogs.
Important note about nature:
Our place is located in the jungle, which is part of what makes it special. This also means that you may occasionally encounter insects or small animals (such as ants, spiders, geckos, etc.), even though we clean thoroughly and do regular checks.
If you’re comfortable sharing space with nature, you’ll love it here. If insects make you very anxious, this may not be the best fit for you.
Alcohol-free space
Our home is an alcohol-free space. We ask guests to please respect this and not consume alcohol on the property.
This is part of how we care for the land, the energy of the space, and the community we’re building here. Thank you for understanding and honoring this intention.
We are passionate about permaculture and syntropic forestry and love caring for our animals, tending the land and growing our own food. We love fogatas (bonfires), playing guitar, and medicine songs. We’re both dancers and enjoy sharing movement, music, and community with anyone who feels called to join.
We are also active in our local community.
On Tuesdays we teach English and on Thursdays we teach dance to local children.
and once a month (last Friday of the month) we organize Movie night for them.
Guests are warmly welcome to join and experience a first-hand glimpse of life on Ometepe, if they’d like.
Ash
With an engineering background, Ash is a programmer and game developer at night and a farmer by day. He also writes, thinks in systems, enjoys poker, and can usually be found in the vivero - his favorite place on the property.
Lucie
A traveler who found her home in Nicaragua, Lucie has a deep love for nature, hiking, and backcountry adventures. She is happiest outdoors and surrounded by green. She is an English teacher, life coach, farmer, and a compost geek. She is also active in the local community - teaching English and dance to local children.
- We are on the trail leading to the top of Volcano Maderas (little over 4 km) and the Laguna de Maderas, with a viewpoint (Mirador) about an hour uphill.
- Closest parking is a 7-minute walk from the cabin.
- Just 15 minutes’ walk from El Zopilote, where you can join morning yoga classes and other wellness activities.
- By moto, the closest beach in Santa Cruz is about 5 minutes away (or a 30-minute walk).
- Ideal for nature lovers, adventurers, and those seeking jungle serenity, outdoor bonfires, and a connection to the rhythms of the island.
