The homestay is conveniently located approximately 2.5–3 km from Swayambhunath Stupa and around 15–20 minutes by car from Thamel, while still feeling far away from the crowds and traffic.
It is an excellent base for travellers who want to explore Kathmandu while returning each day to a quiet, relaxing and homely environment.

About Your Hosts – Binay & Sami Lama
At Monastery View Homestay, you will be warmly welcomed by Binay Lama and Sami Lama, a friendly Nepali couple who love meeting people from around the world and sharing their culture, traditions, and everyday family life.
Binay Lama – Mountain Guide & Buddhist Practitioner
Binay Lama is an experienced mountain and trekking guide with a deep connection to the Himalayas and Buddhist culture. He has spent many years guiding travellers through the mountains of Nepal and enjoys introducing guests to the country’s natural beauty, rich culture, and spiritual traditions.
Binay is also a Buddhist practitioner. He recently completed a Master’s Degree in Applied Buddhist Studies and has a strong interest in Buddhist philosophy, meditation, culture, and Himalayan traditions.
Beyond tourism, Binay is actively involved in social and community work, supporting various educational, charitable, and community initiatives. He enjoys connecting with people and believes that travel can create meaningful friendships and cultural understanding.
Sami Lama is the heart of our home. She is a warm, kind, and welcoming person who loves looking after guests and making them feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.
Sami holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Tribhuvan University and has a genuine interest in people, society, culture, and community life.
She is also a wonderful cook and enjoys preparing delicious homemade Nepali meals for our guests. From traditional Dal Bhat and Momo to everyday Nepali dishes, she is always happy to introduce visitors to the flavours of our home.
Sami and Binay are proud parents of two young boys, Sangye and Gyalchhen, who bring lots of happiness, energy, and laughter to the family home.
