Western House is a historic building situated on the old gold field supply route and now on the Alps to Ocean cycle-way. We provide comfortable surroundings, amazing scenery and great food. Please note that do not provide a kitchen for guests to use but can provide dinner and packed lunches for an additional charge if booked 1 day in advance. Breakfast is served no later than 8.30 after which the kitchen is closed.
We are on the cycle-way just out of Kurow. There is salmon and trout fishing in the river across the road from us and great trips out into the surrounding mountain scenery. We are a good stopping off place for a trip further into Central Otago, Tekapo, Mount Cook, Queenstown or on to Christchurch. The Kurow Museum is really worth a visit as are the local cafes and pubs in Kurow. Make sure you pop into Duntroon to see the Vanished World fossil center and have a look at the Maori rock art sites. A drive or cycle ride around the hydro lakes is a very pleasant way to spend the day.
