Having bought my first cottage in 2002 as a holiday project I fell in love with the area and moved here from the UK in 2003. I learnt Portuguese and now speak fluently. I have added another 3 holiday cottages in this area to my portfolio of self-catering rentals all restored to a comfortable standard with modern appliances and technology.

This is a traditional village cottage built from local schisto in a small mountain village approximately 7kms from the main district town of Arganil. The property was restored in 2012 to make a comfortable self-catering holiday property. The schisto walls have been retained where possible to give an authentic feel to the cottage and the high vaulted living room and main bedroom ceiling are completed in wood. the kitchen is well equipped with everything that you may need on your self catering holiday and the garden has BBQ and furniture so that you can relax and enjoy the beautiful view in peaceful surroundings. For those of you on holiday but still need to keep in touch with your emails and business there is WiFi internet in the cottage and Fibre TV. Due to the pandemic I will not be providing towels for the bathroom or the pool this year. If necessary you can have them on arrival for a small extra charge. A basket of logs for the fire is provided free on arrival during the winter months, each extra basket costs an additional charge.

Casa de Xisto sits on the hillside above the ancient Mosteiro de Folques which was built in the X11th Century for Germanic monks and is now an education centre. There are beautiful views from the mountains to the green valleys where there are rivers that you can swim and fish in. Folques natural swimming pool is only 2kms away and there are many more to enjoy along the Rio Alva and the Ceira. Arganil is the main district town approximately 7kms from the cottage and has all the shops, restaurants, cafes etc that you need. There are other local towns with weekly markets where you can buy fresh produce and the excellent local sheep cheese from the Serra de Estrela which is the highest mountain range in Portugal with snow in the winter months of Decdember, Jnuary and February. It can be T-shirt weather in Arganil and you can ski on the Serra de Estrela!
