Having lived busy lives in the UK and Netherlands and travelled the world, we've found a perfect spot to relax in authentic, central Portugal. We set up our company to provide self-catering accommodation and organise yoga and other retreats, close to nature. We're trying to operate as sustainably as possible. Our solar system now generates far more power than we consume each year. And we try to source as locally as possible for everything we don't grow ourselves.

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Set beneath the Serra da Lousã, Quinta do Areal is an historic country house and farm set in over 12 hectares of pasture, forest and olive groves. Guests come here to relax, slow down and recharge. Come and meet some of the animals. Take a hike in the hills. Visit the local schist mountain villages. We’re adding additional facilities for our guests to use and these will be ready for autumn 2027 - including 2 new accommodations, an event space, a gym and a lounge area. Please bear with us whilst we get these ready.

Neighborhood info

Set in over 12 hectares of pasture, forest and olive groves, beneath the Serra de Lousã, we enjoy a wonderful tranquility. Yet we're only 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from the charming town of Lousã. We're also 30 minutes drive from the historic town of Coimbra and an hour from the coast. The terrain here is ideally suited to outdoor activities, with great cycling, hiking, kayaking and canyoning - or just relaxing in nature - right on our doorstep.
