We have always liked to explore and discover new places. We warmly welcome guests who bring along a piece of their culture and thus bring us closer to many corners of the world when there is no time to travel. We also collect frog figurines. You can take a glimpse at a part of the collection in the reception hall.

The story of “Pri Žabarju” goes back to 1897. More than a century ago, the first owners of the estate, Ivan and Uršula Robežnik, managed the homestead: mainly a farm that featured a grocery shop and a very small inn. After the parents’ death, the eldest son Avgust Robežnik took over the management of the inn. The then housekeeper Avgust lost his life during the Second World War and his role was passed on to his brother Milan. In 1946, Milan married Vera Križnar, an innkeeper’s daughter from Preddvor. They led the inn together until 1972. A year after Milan Robežnik Senior’s death, his son Milan Robežnik Jr. continued the legacy with the helping hand of his wife Ivana. They successfully led the inn for another 40 years during which they expanded the activities to a pastry shop and completed the room facilities in 2005. Recently, Milan and Ivana handed the restaurant over to their oldest son Rok. Rok represents the fourth generation of the Robežnik family, successfully managing the Pri Žabarju estate.

Frogs’ legs are what we prefer to see on a plate. And that is what our restaurant is named after: “Pri Žabarju” means “At Frogman’s”. Wondering why frogs and frogs’ legs? Ljubljana is located on wetlands, which is an excellent environment for these adorable green amphibians. Inhabitants of Ljubljana have always been known as “Frogmen”; they were hunting for frogs and bringing them to our restaurant, where the cooks prepared them and served them to our guests. With time, the number of frogs in Ljubljana decreased and nowadays they rarely fill the plates of Ljubljana’s restaurants. Our restaurant’s menu features frogs on a regular basis and that is why the name “At Frogman’s” sticks.
