Ionia Guest House is a rural bed-and-breakfast in Turkey’s Aegean region, about 30 minutes from Ephesus. Our rooms are spacious with ensuite bathrooms and private verandas. There’s also a swimming pool with a large terrace, and an adjoining cafe. The whole project is set in a fig orchard surrounded by olive groves, overlooking the village of Hıdırbeyli. The hotel is built using environmentally conscious methods. Our walls are timber-frame, with straw bale in-fill, and finally covered in layers of lime plaster. This method leads to walls about 60 cm (2 feet) thick, which give excellent insulation against both the summer sun and the winter cold. It also means the rooms are quiet and peaceful.
We are Sirem and Jason. After 20 years living in the UK and Germany we decided we’d had enough of cold and rainy weather and moved to Turkey’s Aegean region. We’re passionate about green building so we’ve used 100% local materials in building our hotel. Similarly, we care about using local ingredients in our cooking, and we hope to give guests an experience of authentic Turkish cuisine and not just the usual kebabs. Finally, we find it very hard to say no to any hungry animals that turn up on our doorstep, so our place features quite a few cats and dogs that we have adopted. But don't worry: if you have allergies or are otherwise not a fan, we can make sure they stay out of your way.
Our place makes a great base for exploring the stunning archaeological sites of the Meander Valley and ancient Ionia, including Ephesus, Priene, Miletus, and Magnesia. It’s also a good choice for visitors interested in local markets, authentic Turkish food, and exploring the natural landscape.
