Hillsview Residence is a standalone two-storey guest house, private and separate from the main house, 15 km outside Masindi town on the Hoima road — a secure, quiet base for Murchison Falls, with chimpanzee trekking five minutes away. The compound is fully fenced, with 24/7 security, surveillance cameras and secure parking inside the gate. A standby generator keeps the lights and WiFi on when the mains go down, and there's a proper workspace if you need to catch up between trips. Four self-contained ensuite bedrooms with queen beds sleep up to eight. Two living rooms — one on each floor — a fully equipped kitchen and a bright dining area mean groups and families can cook, spread out and settle in. Outside there's a private backyard and patio for a BBQ or a slow evening. Mornings are the best of it: low light across the compound, birdsong, and the road to the park still empty.

Hillsview is a family home, and it's still run by family. They live on the property and will be there to welcome you, whatever time you arrive. We pass your name and the size of your group to our security team ahead of your stay, so you're expected at the gate rather than arriving as a stranger — even if the road from Kampala has run long and you're pulling in after dark. They know this area far better than any guidebook does. Where to eat, which route to take to the park gate, where to find a mechanic if the vehicle plays up on the way in — ask them. They enjoy that part, and they'd rather sort something out for you than have you puzzle it out alone. Between us you're covered at both ends: me before you arrive, my parents once you're through the gate. What we like most is a full house — it's a big, quiet place, and it comes alive in the evening when everyone's back and swapping stories about what they saw that day.

We're in Bikonzi, about 15 km outside Masindi town on the Hoima road, and just 800 m off the main road along Isaaza/ Bujjenje county Road — far enough out for quiet nights and open sky, close enough that town is a short drive when you need it. Karibuni Supermarket in Masindi is where we send guests to stock up, especially if you're planning to cook here; you'll find most of what you need there. Hoima is roughly 40–45 km the other way, so the house sits comfortably between the two. The main draw is Murchison Falls National Park: roughly 45–60 minutes to the gate, so you can leave after breakfast and still make the morning game drive. Chimpanzee trekking is only about five minutes away, which surprises most guests — it's genuinely the closest attraction to the house. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is around an hour off, and works well as a stop on the way in from Kampala. For meals out, there's a good lunch spot a short drive from the house that our guests tend to settle on — the family will point you to it, along with anywhere else worth the trip. Masindi itself sits in the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, one of Uganda's oldest, with a long history worth an afternoon if you're not rushing to the park.
