John and Ellen have run the Lodge for over 41 years, John, a native of Lexington, is a treasure trove of all things local and offers experienced advice on the Civil War sites, local restaurants hiking trails, flyfishing streams, scenic drives and much more.
John and Ellen Roberts have a very long history in welcoming guests to their Lodge for over 41 years. They have hosted many thousands of guests from all over the world seeking a happy time in a small historic Virginia town tand their mission has been and always will be to make each and everyone of these stays a pleasant memory. Being a small part of people's ''happy times'' has brought tons of gratification to the innkeepers with lots of friendships made in the meantime. The super location, comfortable beds and custom made full breakfasts from a menu have brought many a repeat vistory. Upon checkin rereshments are offered and guests are given the lay of the land backed up by map handouts. actual local estaraunt menus, and other aids to help insure guests get the most out of their stay at the Lodge. John is a noted flyfishing guide of 68 years who does an Intro to Fishing Trip as well as other stream trips for the more experienced types. He has tons of hiking and other outdoor activitity info. Ellen a golfer is known for outstanding breakfasts from a menu no less. Both have done a fair of travel which is always fun to share with guests.
Guests love the tree lined streets and older historic homes in our neighborhood, stories abound about the historic characters who owned them. The walk down to the restaurants is only 8-10 minutes and goes by the ''Stonewall'' Jackson Cemetery. Washington & Lee University founded in 1749 and Viirginia Military Institute founded 1749 are walkable , both have museums of historic interest and there are special unterest ones on both campuses. Historic tours of the town by horse carriages are a guest favorite during the April thru October period. The Stonewall Jackson Hhistory House and Lee Chapel are must sees for history visitors, tours of each are available .
