Stay on the "Quiet Side" of MDI in Hall Quarry at Acadia View Cottage. Our pet-friendly home was built in the early 1900s and still has that old-Maine soul, including a big antique dining table and built-in bunks. We’ve thoughtfully updated the kitchen with butcher block counters and refreshed both bathrooms. Outside, there’s a spacious lawn with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs, plus a grill and picnic table for easy dinners. It’s a peaceful, private spot close to Echo Lake and the Western Mountain trails.

Hall Quarry is a historic village that offers a true escape from the busier parts of the island. Once a booming quarrying community that provided granite for monuments in D.C. and New York, it is now one of the most peaceful residential pockets on MDI. Because there is very little commercial light nearby, the stargazing from our lawn is exceptional on clear nights. You are perfectly positioned to enjoy the "Quiet Side" of Mount Desert Island. We are just minutes from Somes Sound, a stunning natural waterway that cleaves the island in half and is a beautiful spot for a morning walk. For coastal adventures, the Ship Harbor and Wonderland trails are about fifteen minutes away, offering flat, family-friendly paths that lead to incredible tide pools. A highlight of the area is the nearby village of Somesville, just a few minutes north. It is the oldest settlement on the island and home to the iconic Somesville bridge and the historic Selectmen's Building. This arched white footbridge is often cited as the most photographed spot in Maine and sits right next to the Somesville Museum and its beautiful heirloom gardens. If you are looking for local flavor, the town of Southwest Harbor is only a ten-minute drive from the house. This is a classic working harbor where you can watch the lobster boats come in. We recommend grabbing coffee and pastries at Clark Point Cafe or heading to Beal’s Lobster Pier for a meal on the water. You are also a short drive from the iconic Bass Harbor Head Light and the scenic fire tower views at Beech Mountain.
