Just minutes north of Fairbanks, the Borealis Bungalow is a peaceful studio retreat tucked among the birch trees. Enjoy a private entrance, kitchenette, roomy shower, and blackout curtains for a truly restful stay. After a day of exploring, unwind in the wood-fired sauna or soak in the 8-seat hot tub. In the long summer months, fire up the grill and dine on the patio, or gather around the fire pit- wood is graciously provided. In the winter months, the property is dark enough to catch the Northern Lights; in summer, you’ll love the glow of the Midnight Sun - all while being just 10 minutes from downtown Fairbanks. Thoughtful breakfast items are included in your stay. Additionally, you may request personalized local recommendations from your host - an Alaskan of 30+ years. Staying here, you’re also only 30 minutes from the Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska! This quaint studio is ideal for guests who value comfort, simplicity, and quiet. The space features a cozy sleeping area with a queen bed, TV, a clean and well-kept bathroom, and reliable heat to keep things warm and inviting year-round. The Borealis Bungalow offers a serene place to relax and recharge.
While I love traveling and experiencing new places, I also enjoy hosting people to my home town of Fairbanks, Alaska. It's one-of-a-kind and I like my guests to experience the very best that Alaska has to offer in all seasons! I am a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic and have lived in Fairbanks for over thirty years, so I know all the places that are Must-See in the area.
Tucked along Fairbanks’ scenic Steele Creek side, the Gilmore Trail area is a quiet, wooded pocket northeast of town, just off the Steese Highway corridor. Homes sit on larger lots among birch and spruce, offering a peaceful “close to town, yet away from it all” feel with wonderfully open skies - ideal for stargazing and, in season, Northern Lights viewing. Locals even head up Gilmore Trail to gain a bit of elevation for broader horizons and darker skies. That elevation can also be a bonus for comfort - often a 20 degrees warmer during the deep-winter inversion months and a bit cooler on hot, sunny Midnight Sun days. This is a residential, car-dependent neighborhood and while it is not a walk-to-coffee district, it is perfect for guests who appreciate calm mornings, crisp Interior Alaska air, and extra privacy - while still being an easy drive to Fairbanks dining, shopping, and attractions. Wildlife sightings in the broader area are common. Summers can be dry, and fire restrictions may be in effect at times; however, guests safety is paramount and we keep all guest up-to-date on current weather and regulations. There is a fire station less than 1.5 miles from the property.
