I’ve grown up in the shadow of Hardy House and was so incredibly blown away with the detail and loving care to this restored Brookhaven treasure!

The Captain Jack Hardy House is a historic Italianate home built in 1877 by Captain Jack Hardy, a former ship captain, and his wife Ellen Hooker Hardy. The home and surrounding acreage was used as a farm for racing horses and breeding hunting dogs. It was also home to "Tallulah" James Lulah Ragsdale, niece of Ellen Hardy, who became one of the first published female authors in the state. Tallulah gained some fame during her stint as an actress and author of poems in New York City; she later returned home to continue writing and worked at the local women's college, Whitworth College. Her book, "Miss Dulcie from Dixie" was made into a silent movie in 1919, starring Gladys Leslie. The Captain Jack Hardy House earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007, and underwent an extensive historic renovation beginning in 2017.
The Captain Jack Hardy House is centrally located in the 'Ole Town' or Victorian District of Brookhaven where several examples of victorian and craftsman-style homes can be found, built beginning in the late 1800s and into the early and mid 1900s.
