Neighborhood info
Nags Head, NC is one of the most iconic towns on the Outer Banks, blending natural beauty, rich history, and laid-back beach town charm. Located on a barrier island along the coast of North Carolina, Nags Head boasts miles of sandy beaches, towering sand dunes, and a mix of historic beach cottages and modern vacation homes. This beloved Outer Banks destination offers a perfect balance of recreation and relaxation.
At the heart of Nags Head lies Jockey’s Ridge State Park, home to the tallest natural sand dunes on the East Coast. Visitors to the park fly kites, take hang gliding lessons, run up and roll down the huge sand dunes, or hike the trails back to a sandy soundfront beach. At sunset, crowds flock to the dunes to watch the sun sink into the Roanoke Sound and the skies over the ocean turn hues of pink and purple.
Nags Head is also home to three fishing piers, all offering exceptional fishing and sweeping ocean views. Historic Jennette's Pier, the original Outer Banks pier, was destroyed by a storm and rebuilt by the state of NC as the only concrete pier on the Outer Banks. The Nags Head Fishing Pier is centrally located in town and features not only excellent fishing, but a restaurant too. The southernmost pier in Nags Head is the Outer Banks Fishing Pier which is also home to outstanding fishing, and the popular Fish Heads Bar & Grill.
Vacation rentals in Nags Head range from cozy, oceanfront condos to large family homes packed with amenities. Many of these rentals feature beach access, swimming pools, hot tubs, game rooms, and decks for enjoying coastal breezes. Whether you’re planning a quiet couple’s retreat or a week-long family vacation, Nags Head offers homes to suit every kind of getaway.
The town of Nags Head is packed with local restaurants, seafood shacks, surf shops, and art galleries, and it’s just a short drive from neighboring towns like Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk and Manteo.
