Craig and Dan found their way to Ludlow after years in New York, Connecticut, Florida, and South Carolina. Hospitality has always been the constant—whether they were hosting friends for dinner, managing vacation rentals, or just making sure no one went home hungry. When The Governor's Inn came on the market, they didn't hesitate. It was exactly the kind of place they'd been looking for. Dan works nearby as CFO at Landmark College, while Craig keeps the inn running smoothly, drawing on years of hotel and vacation rental management experience. Between the two of them, they handle the spreadsheets, the guest rooms, and the breakfast table. Most importantly, they both genuinely like doing it. When they're not at the inn, they're out exploring Ludlow—hiking, dining, or just walking around town with their two dogs, Chase and Storm. Storm usually has somewhere important to be, and Chase is just happy to be along for the ride.

In 1890, William Wallace Stickney built this house for his wife, Lizzy. It was their home through his time as Speaker of the Vermont House and later as Governor of Vermont. The Stickney family held onto it until 1977, when someone had the good sense to turn it into a bed and breakfast. It became The Governor's Inn in 1980, and we like to think the name stuck for a reason. Walk through the front door and you're standing where Governor Stickney greeted his guests. The entry hall fireplace still warms the room, and the pocket doors to his study still glide shut with the same satisfying weight. That study is now our guest parlor—come in, grab a book from the shelf, and settle onto the sofa. The fireplace is gas now (a little more practical than hauling wood), but it still puts out plenty of heat on a cold Vermont night. If you're feeling dramatic, ask us to close the pocket doors behind you. The house has kept a lot of its original bones. Look for the woodwork in the entrance hall, the stairways, the windows and doors, and the stained-glass panels in the front hall and staircase. We're a little obsessed with it, honestly. Of course, 136 years is a long time for a house to sit still. The east-side porch was enclosed decades ago, with the second and third floors built right on top. The kitchen grew a bit, too. In some rooms, the original wood floors still show scars where walls used to stand—small reminders that this place has always been a work in progress. The Governor's Room was Stickney's own bedroom. We can't promise you'll dream of state budgets, but we can promise a comfortable night's sleep in a room that has seen its share of history.

The Governor's Inn is located in the Village of Ludlow, Vermont, in walking distance to restaurants, shops, and bars. Okemo Mountain Resort with winter skiing and summer activities is one mile from the property. Throughout all seasons the Green Mountains provide ample possibilities for outdoor activities - skiing, hiking, biking, canoeing, golfing, fishing and so much more. The Black River Academy Museum is in walking distance, President Calvin Coolidge Historical Site is a short drive away. America's oldest continuously operating cheese factory, Crowley Cheese, is just "up the road" a few miles away. These are just a few of the attractions Ludlow, the Okemo Valley, and the Green Mountains of Vermont have to offer.
