The Kleemann House was opened on August 15, 1883 as a tourist hotel in Custer City. Just the third brick building built in Custer, it was known as a luxurious and grand retreat and played host to many westerners traveling to Custer, one of which was Buffalo Bill Cody. The hotel featured a parlor, an office, a dining room and a bar, that reportedly featured “the finest Kentucky whiskies, imported and domestic wines, brandies, cordials and cigars and the best brands of bottle Lager.” The hotel also featured numerous large and airy bedrooms according to a story in the Custer Chronicle. The Kleemann House has seen many changes throughout the years and having undergone extensive restoration is once again available for guest to book.

What I love most about hosting guests at the Kleemann House is sharing a piece of Custer's history while helping people create memories of their own. Built in 1887, the home has a character and charm that simply can't be replicated. I enjoy welcoming families, friends, and travelers from around the world and giving them a place where they can slow down, relax, and experience the beauty of the Black Hills. For me, hosting is about more than providing a place to stay. It's about creating an experience. Whether guests are gathering around the dining table, celebrating a special occasion, exploring nearby attractions, or simply enjoying a quiet morning on the porch, I take pride in knowing the Kleemann House is part of those moments. Seeing guests leave with wonderful memories and hearing how much they enjoyed their stay is the most rewarding part of being a host. The opportunity to preserve this historic home while sharing it with others is truly a privilege.
