Stay in the home of one of America's most beloved Presidents, Ulysses S Grant. His pre-civil war home has been fully restored to its 1800's splendor with a convincing blend of historic era pieces and discretely disguised modern conveniences. It's a perfect mix of history and luxury. It is located just 3 blocks from the historic downtown. Browse through Grant's library/office stocked with period books, civil war books and memorabilia including a civil war issue sword and a set of books from his personal library. An original 1870's oil portrait of President Grant hangs above the desk. Civil war photos and an 1869 drawing of Grant leaving this home for the Civil War adorn the entry hall leading to the library. There are three bedrooms, four queen beds, two full baths, full kitchen, dining room, parlor, flat screen tv's, sitting room, library, free laundry and ironing facilities, outside patio & grill, and private off-street parking. Just three blocks from downtown.
Daniel and Sandy Hurt are retired and have now traveled across twenty-two nations providing freshwater wells, building schools, churches, self-sustaining projects, and performing a wide range of humanitarian aid to the disadvantaged through their non-profit. Sandy's hobby is raising and riding horses, and Daniel's is writing books. His latest titled "Hello Lucas" is a captivating daily devotional available on Amazon and at all bookstores. Sandy has the gift of hospitality which has earned her the "Super Host" award on many platforms. She loves being the host and steward of the Grant's historical Home. Since opening the doors in 2021, she has attentively seen to every detail of the house's design, cleanliness, amenities, and customer care & satisfaction. In fact, because of her detailed attention and customer care, for the past five years every single customer has given a five-star review! If you book with us, you can expect a personal detailed email before checking in and a prompt reply to your inquiries. If any in-house problems were to arise during your stay, she will take your call and try to work with you in real time. If needed, she will contact one of our local Galena associates or contractors who will help resolve unexpected issues. In 2021 Daniel and Sandy Hurt purchased Ulysses S. Grant's pre-civil war home which was vacant and deteriorating. They immediately began the task of restoring its historic splendor and incorporating discretely "hidden" modern amenities. After one year the restoration and modernization process was complete. To their surprise, on October 17th, 2022, the city of Galena presented them with the "Galena Historic Preservation Award. The mayor told the couple, "The city appreciates the care that you have taken in restoring the home. It is an important community asset." You may notice that the city historic tour trolley stops in front of the house several times a day.
Grant's historic residence sits at the crest of the hill overlooking Galena's Historic downtown. Follow the same three block stairway descent that Grant took every day to easily access downtown.
