Initially operating as a mushroom farm, the buildings have been transformed into unique self-catering units, which accommodate 55 people in the 2 houses, 5 cottages and 2 upmarket BnB units; The Apartment and Loft. The cottages sleep 4 people, the Round House sleeps 12, the Falls House sleeps 15, The Apartment sleeps 4 and The Loft , 4. Each unit is self-contained and fully furnished with 100% cotton linen and an equipped kitchen. We recently just opened a venue hire facility. ​Staying with us is a retreat that benefits from its proximity to the vibrant community. All of the units are a short stroll to the Tunnels where artisans procure shops, restaurants, gym and community garden. The farm is surrounded by the best mountain biking and trail running routes in South Africa and is an ideal starting point for wonderful day trips exploring all the Midlands Meander has to offer. ​

The Old Mushroom Farm is situated in the picturesque KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, only 6.5km from Howick on the Karkloof Road. As the name suggests, the farm was once used to grow mushrooms, but has since been renovated into modern accommodation and is now an attractive destination for the whole family- including pets! The farm shed (the Loft), a mushroom growing tunnel (the Tunnel Apartment), grow-rooms (the Boutique Apartments), and staff housing (the Cottages) have been artfully converted into a unique self-catering accommodation experience. There is plenty to do and see on the farm with multiple shops, restaurants, kids play area, food garden and more also on the property. Work out at the gym, grab a morning coffee, pick up some fresh bread, and forage for your lunch- all a short walk from where you’ll be staying. Bring your bike!
