Algoa Guest House is an owner-managed 3-star bed and breakfast establishment in the upmarket seaside suburb of Summerstrand in the “Friendly City” of Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth). Here you’ll find the warm waters of the Indian Ocean lapping the shoreline of Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape. Pollock Beach, which locals call the “pipe”, is popular with surfers, and is a short 200-metre walk from Algoa Guest House. Gqeberha offers a wide variety of golden beaches to swim, surf or laze in the sun, with three beaches having blue flag status. They are within easy reach of guests. • Hobie Beach near to Shark Rock Pier and the Boardwalk, where you can explore the sheltered rock pools, sunbathe, swim, or body surf. • King’s Beach, with its magnificent 1.6 km expanse of sand, is perfect for long beach walks. • Nestled between Hobie and King’s Beach, Humewood Beach is the oldest blue flag beach in South Africa. It forms part of the main beach promenade which runs along the coastline. Golfing enthusiasts can head to Humewood Golf Club, only 1.5 km away. The club opened in 1931 and is the only links golf course on the continent of Africa. The Boardwalk Mall is an exciting addition to the iconic Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment Complex, 2kms away, and opened with much fanfare in 2022. Algoa Guest House is your ideal base to explore the city and its surrounds. You can drive to Grahamstown, Sardinia Bay, Jeffreys Bay or Addo Elephant Park in under an hour. Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport is a convenient ten minutes away by car. We offer secure off-street parking for your vehicle behind remote-controlled gates and the owner has installed solar power to ease the burden of rolling power blackouts (load shedding). Pollock Beach is just 200 metres from AGH and is a great place to go and experience the views of the seaside and the many dolphins that inhabit our waters (PE has been named at the bottle-nose dolphin capital of the world!). Addo Elephant Park is just under one hour's drive away. Kragga Kamma Game Park is also a short 25km drive away. Humewood Links golf course is just a short distance away. The entrance to the North and South Campus's of Nelson Mandela Bay is just slightly over 1km away.
