Perfect for short term stays with air-conditioned, self cratering suites, apartments and rooms with the option to book breakfast packs All units have separate entrances and free parking on site. We providing a home and office for you in the Karoo, a base for work or to explore the surrounding area, Conveniently 200m from the business centre and within walking distance to restaurants, Supermarket, shops, schools and banks. The mountain drive with walking- and biking trails are accessed via our vehicle entrance. You have the luxury to park your vehicle on arrival and walk to most venues in our village - this is Karoo life. The heritage sites, Old Parsonage, the Walter Battiss Art Gallery, where you can take a tour of Fook Island, or see how taxidermy is done at the wildlife artistry, are within walking distance from our accommodation.

Accommodation is just what we do. Since our ancestor Thomas Hartly established the "Pig & Whistle" at Bathurst in the Eastern Cape during the 1800's, through to our Battiss family who run the Battiss Hotel in Somerset East, we provided accommodation from generation to generation, whether long- or short term, or simply taken a traveller under our wing for the night. We have moved with the times and our accommodation is modern, yet with a touch of period furniture and all the necessary comforts and necessities to create a home for you while visiting our area.

Altenburgh is situated in the historical village of Somerset East in the malaria free Eastern Cape, providing a midpoint gateway to major national parks, the Addo Elephant National Park, Mountain Zebra National Park, the Camdeboo National Park, the scenic Zuurberg Mountain Pass with breathtaking scenery and various tourist destinations. At the foot of the Boschberg mountain, with indigenous forests, where many athletic trails are run and exhilirating mountain bike races take place, we are within walking distance to the mountain drive and a short cycle to the gold course via our back entrance. Various other outdoor activities are available in the area for the more adventurous visitor i.e quad biking, 4 x 4 trails and game viewing to name but a few. Our gardens and surroundings are spacious, complimenting the vastness of the Karoo and you can almost touch the kaleidoscope of green on the mountain with visible waterfalls after good rains.
