Beautiful view, quaint atmosphere. Loved the two balconies where we could sit and relax, looking at birds and viewing the town). Shower AND bath available, which suited our preferences 😀

Kattekwaad guesthouse is situated in Kaapsehoop which is a small settlement 30 kilometers from the biggest town in the area namely Nelspruit. It is on route to the Kruger National Park and the escarpment. The wooden house is placed such that the back of the property is bordering the Komatiland Forestry and no buildings can therefor be erected in that area. This is also where the beauty of the nature starts - the rock formations. The double story building is divided into two areas - the ground floor where the owners stay and the top floor is only for the guests of Kattekwaad. The rooms are accessed by means of stairs on the outside which guarantee the privacy of our guests. On the ground floor there is a dining room in which meals can be enjoyed. Kattekwaad (Direct translation is naughty cats) was kept to 3 rooms to ensure personal attention to our guests and also to make sure that the personal attention can be given to cleanness of the guesthouse. Lulu (Landlady) is doing the washing of the linen herself and also make sure that everything is clean and to the expectation of our guests.
As citizens known as "pensioners" we decided that we wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city's and start something in a fairly remote area. Kaapsehoop was that remote area and we have decided to start a small accommodation facility. That will keep Lulu busy with things in the house that she likes and gives me the opportunity to keep myself busy with the garden and also the maintenance of the property. A wooden structure requires a lot of maintenance and as somebody that likes to work with his hands this was the ideal opportunity. Decorating the rooms and making everything acceptable for our guests was a challenge Lulu grabbed with both hands and comments from our visitors underlined the success she made of this. We are both people that can communicate with other people and enjoy sharing with others. We are family people and is fortunate enough to be grand parents. We are Christians by religion but respects other peoples faith. In short - we respect other people.
Kaapsehoop is one of the most ideal overnight and longer stay areas in the east of South Africa. Kaapsehoop can be the base from where visits to numerous waterfalls, fascinating scenery like the potholes, Kruger National Park and other scenery can be reached during the course of a day or where the local area can be explored. Kaapsehoop is well known for it's wild horses of which there is an estimated 250 roaming the plantations and of which there are quite a number permanently in the town itself running free. Wild life such as monkeys and baboons are visiting the guest house on a daily basis. A waterfall less than a kilometer from the guesthouse is something to see and visit. Roughly 600 meters from the guesthouse the escarpment overlooking the low-veld starts and is overlooking a valley that stretches over a wide area. One of the rare sites that is the fairly unknown is Adams Calendar that is an estimated 75 000 years old and is apparently the oldest functional megalithic site in the world. The rock formations starting 10 meters from the guest house is something that one can explore for a whole day and also have a look at the trenches the Boers create during the English war.
