Makongo Hills is a home away from home, offering affordable accommodation for 10, suited to couples, small groups, or families. We are a fully catered lodge and meals are prepared with a proudly local flavour. We are passionate about conservation and sustainability and are an off the grid lodge, working to reduce our carbon footprint. We are particularly involved in upliftment and upskilling our local community and in projects to protect rhino. As we are relatively remote we do not accept last minute bookings and only accept stays of 2 nights or more.

Makongo Hills Lodge is set in the Mkuze Valley Wilderness Reserve, deep in the lines of a historic Zulu battle, and stretches for 15,000 hectares. Here you’ll find a malaria-free, secluded, biodiversity area, home to the Big 5 and a large variety of other animals and birds. We are inspired to share this pristine Zululand wilderness with you. Makongo Hills derives its name from the AmaQongo hilltops it overlooks. This is the site where the 1840 Battle of Maqongqo took place - a battle between Dingane and Mpande for the title of the Zulu Kingdom. As we are relatively remote we do not accept last minute bookings and only accept stays of 2 nights or more.
