A Unique Stay in the Heart of the Gamtoos Valley Mariri Farm Cottage has a rich and interesting history. It was originally built as a kitchen used to cater for farm prisoners many decades ago — a system once common in South Africa’s agricultural past. Today, this space has been thoughtfully restored and transformed into a spacious and comfortable one-bedroom cottage (approximately 88 m²), blending history with modern convenience. The cottage offers a lovely open-plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen, perfect for a relaxed and easy stay. The bedroom features a comfortable double bed with quality linen, and the bathroom includes a shower — and possibly the oldest and ugliest flushing toilet in the Gamtoos Valley (just kidding… or maybe not!). A roof fan in the bedroom ensures comfort during warmer days. Guests have a private entrance and their own garden area, ensuring a peaceful and secluded stay. The cottage is situated at the top of a 1-hectare property, while the owners’ home is located further down, offering both privacy and peace of mind. You may also be warmly welcomed by our friendly farm companions — a Border Collie and a Dachshund.

Mariri Farm Cottage is situated at Die Grand, Padlangs’ function venue in the Gamtoos Valley, just across the road from Padlangs Country Restaurant. Guests can enjoy a peaceful farm-style setting with plenty of space, while still being close to great food and local hospitality.
