It offers panoramic views of Albert Falls Dam and is conveniently situated close to Pietermaritzburg, Albert Falls Dam Reserve, and Durban. The estate has historical roots dating back to 1841 and was once a working farm until 1953. Notable remnants include an old mill stone and original brick buildings. The site gained fame as a filming location for "King Solomon's Mines" in the late 1930s. Today, Mon Desir Estate serves as a tranquil retreat for holidaymakers, nature lovers, and bird watchers, featuring diverse wildlife and farm animals.
