Jenny is an interior decorator at heart and I am a carpenter so between us we have customized all the furnishings. This makes Pebbles unique and every bit of space is optimally used while taking full advantage of the beautiful sea views. We love interacting with our guests while respecting the privacy of those who prefer to be left alone. We have made many friends all over the world and guests often return time and time again. It is particularly gratifying when our guests spend time in Schoenies, hiking the trails, swimming in the rock pools or simply lounging on their decks enjoying the sunset.I have drawn up maps of the local hiking trails which literally start on our doorstep and give one the opportunity to explore the coast and the adjacent fynbos clad bush. (Fynbos is the indigenous vegetation which is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom) This tiny kingdom which stretches from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town boasts almost as many flowering plant species as a tropical jungle.
Jenny and I could not believe our luck when we bought our plot in Schoenies way back in the 90"s. We raised our family on the shore of the Indian ocean where whales breach and guppies can be caught with a bent hook and a squashed periwinkle. Now that they have left home to make their own lives the house is way to big for the two of us so we are only to happy to share it. I still teach (biology) in the mornings and fiddle around in my workshop in the afternoons while Jenny and Phatheka are responsible for maintaining the high standard of cleanliness that is synonymous with Pebbles.
Schoenies has a special place in the heart of many Port Elizabethans. It is only 10 minutes from town and 20 minutes from the airport but it has the peace and tranquility of a coastal village, miles from anywhere. We are so close to town yet have the privilege of having whales play on our doorstep from June to December. Port Elizabethans regularly come down to walk the trails with their dogs or swim in the sea.Others come to fish although I am not sure how successful they are.
