We are based on the Saunter - a wonderful area on the Thousand Hills Route half way between Durban and Pietermaritzburg - which boasts cafes, unique local shops and crafts, stunning views and easy day trips to the Midlands, Shongweni Dam and the famous Shongweni Farmers Market (on Saturdays) as well as local breweries. Only half an hour from Durban beaches and 40 minutes from Umhlanga Rocks and Ballito, but away from the crowds and humidity of the coast.

We have lived in this area for more than 30 years and enjoy the climate and more relaxed surroundings of our little village of Hillcrest. We enjoy going on local walks and ambles, cycling is also a favourite sport - if you don't mind hills!

Assagay is a semi-rural area just four kilometers from central Hillcrest but we are on a very quiet road with mostly individual homes with some small complexes. We have a very active and friendly Neighbourhood Watch covering the area. Lots of birdlife due to the lush vegetation.
