Shallow Pig Cottage is situated on a small working farm just 11km outside of Parys and 30 min drive from Potchefstroom. The farm is situated in the beautiful koppies of the Vredefort dome, just off the R53 tar road. The self-catering cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. There is an open-plan kitchen nook, a dining table, a lounge area, an indoor fireplace with a renovated coal stove and outdoor braai facilities. The first bedroom has a queen-size bed and the second bedroom has two single beds. An additional single bed can be added on request, to accommodate families. The bathroom is newly completed and equipped with a bath, shower and beautiful view. There is limited cell phone signal, and the farm uses solar power as well as wind turbines for water and electricity. Access is via 500 m of the reasonable farm road, most cars like sedans manage fine. Guests are welcome to take a hike up our 3.5 km hiking route into the back of the dome and climb up into the koppies or to access the stream at the bottom of the property for a picnic or stroll. On arrangement, guests can collect their own free range eggs for breakfast or take home. The property is 70 square meters without the outside porch that has some lovely views of the mountains.

The farm belongs to the Krugers and the Mudges who purchased the farm together as a working farm with bee hives,cattle,chickens and fruit trees. Our hiking trail is highly recommended for the 360 degree views over the dome conservancy area. It is our sanctuary and we love to share it with others. This is the place you come to unwind and escape. Here you read, go for long walks, braai and fellowship with one another.

Parys town 11km away and Potchefstroom City 36km away. These Free State destinations are in close proximity to the Shallow Pig accommodation. Parys is essentially a farming community - tobacco, corn, sorghum and cattle are all farmed in the vicinity but it has become a very popular holiday destination because of it's location on the southern bank of the Vaal River and proximity to Johannesburg (less than an hour's drive). History : The town was founded in 1873 and likely named by a German surveyor named Schilbach , who fought in the siege of Paris in 1870. It officially became a town in 1887. The town has grown substantially and has all the comforts and conveniences of the big city, yet it retains it's country-side charm with quaint and unique shops and eateries. Main Attraction : The Vredefort Dome is the main attraction in the area with it's beautiful mountains, river, bushveld and rugged beauty draws visitors to this unique World Heritage Site. It is a geological treasure trove that offers activities like tours, white water rafting, wildlife exploration, bushveld scenery, star gazing and breath-taking sunsets.
