The Border Post is found at the top of Oliviershoek pass overlooking the Northern Drakensberg while nestled against the Sterkfontein Dam. We serve straight forward food with an emphasis on simple artistry. Found on the farm "Windmill" the Old house was built in 1936 and over the years was restored to its original rustic splendor and run as a bed & breakfast. The house hosts 7 en-suite rooms, stylishly and comfortably and is surrounded by lush gardens and an exquisite view down towards the Bergville countryside and over the Natal farmlands. The Border Post is a beautiful retreat where peace & tranquility, gracious hospitality, fine food and comfortable accommodations are at the forefront of everything we do. Attractions in the area include Sterkfontein Dam, Retief Klip, Kaalvoet vrou Monument, Tugela Falls & Gorge Walk (Highest waterfall in the world), Royal Natal National Park Drakensberg World Heritage Site, Tugela Vaal Pumped Storage Scheme, San (Bushman) Rock Art, World Class Yellowfish Angling.
The Border Post is an ideal venue for exploring the Drakensberg & Eastern Free State. Situated on the R74, we are the alternate, toll free route to the busy N3. Find us at the top of Oliviershoek Pass, halfway between Harrismith & Bergville. The Sterkfontein Dam lies on our northern boundary and fly fishermen come from all over the world to bag their "Yellow" on dry fly or beetle. Being next door to the Sterkfontein dam, we are an ideal base for kite surfers, windsurfers, boating enthusiasts and fishermen. We are ideally situated for tourists visiting the Drakensberg World Heritage Site, travelling to or from Kwa Zulu Natal and the Cape or St Lucia. Gauteng & OR Tambo Airport are within a 3-hour journey, while the N 5 & the N 3 are less than a 30 min drive from us. Being only 100kms from Clarens and Golden Gate National Park makes for a perfect day trip.
