Valley Lakes is a peaceful and comfortable place to stay just outside Underberg, South Africa. Isolated and tranquil, it provides the perfect opportunity to relax, connect with nature, explore the foothills of the Southern Drakensberg or enjoy some of the country's finest fly fishing. We also have an amazing function and wedding venue with spectacular views, plenty of space and unique photo opportunities. An authentic farm experience with the possibility of engaging with our gentle giant Percheron called Galleon, awaits you and your family. Located on either side of The Lodge, 2 identical riverside chalets sleep 8 each. Downstairs: 2 bedrooms sleeping 4 people and can be configured to twin or king-size beds. A full bathroom plus a separate shower and a separate toilet. Adjacent to a fully equipped kitchenette is an open-plan dining and sitting room in the center of which is a freestanding fireplace. Upstairs: 4 single beds accommodate guests on a mezzanine floor with dormer windows with views of the mountain. Outside: Each chalet has its own private fire pit. Overlooking the river, they are suitable for cooking under the stars in fair weather. They are built from the bricks salvaged from chalet 2 when it burnt down.

A 30m paddle from your chalet/lodge puts you out onto the stocked still waters of the 60ha Curragh Lake – the soul of our Valley. Plus, the Ndawana Riverbeds that feed into the lake and are home to wild rainbow trout. The Southern Drakensberg is home to the majestic Eland. For those with an interest in birds and indigenous flora and fauna; there are from Fish Eagles to Shell Duck, River Otters to Mountain Reedbuck, Everlastings to wild Agapanthus and Abelia scattered on our slopes. And all the delicate miracles of nature that exist in between. Footpaths, mountain biking, hiking and 4×4 tails. From rough and rugged to gentle farmland, there is something for the resilient and the hopeful. From Thaba Msila at Valley Lakes to Mount Sutherland at Pear Tree Cottage, our summits will put you on top of the world where you can inhale fresh mountain air, see your problems from a bird’s eye view and exhale your stresses.
