My husband Steve and I took the plunge and moved to Africa in 2020, a decision that completely changed the course of our lives. For me, one of my greatest passions is natural horsemanship. Horses have always been a part of who I am, and living here has given me the opportunity to deepen that bond in ways I never imagined. There is something so grounding about working with horses using trust, patience, and respect rather than force—it becomes less about riding and more about creating a partnership. Whether I’m in the saddle exploring trails that wind through the bush or simply spending quiet time at the stables, I find a sense of peace and connection that fills me with gratitude. When I’m not with my horse, you’ll most likely find me on the banks of the Zambezi River. There’s nothing quite like watching the sun slip below the horizon, the sky painted in fiery oranges and soft purples, while the river flows gently by. Sometimes Steve and I take a boat out with a glass of wine in hand, enjoying the stillness broken only by the call of a fish eagle or the splash of a hippo in the distance. Other weekends we love heading off to one of the many nearby campsites. Each one feels like a hidden gem, offering a chance to unwind beneath a blanket of stars, wake to the sounds of nature, and be reminded just how special it is to live in such a wild and beautiful place.
