Amazing guesthouse for a stay in the Shimoda area. The hosts are great and very helpful, bedroom was very cosy and nice, as were the facilities including kitchen and bathrooms in the property. Highly recommend, the guesthouse is also located in a really nice and relaxed area right next to Ebisu Island.

This is an older ryokan with onsen. We enjoyed the quiet as well as the baths (which we had mostly to ourselves), especially the outdoor one under a full moon. The 2 meals we had were traditional and both excellent with tasty seafood dishes. Our room overlooked a central garden pond with a view of the hillside above. We slept wonderfully. This is an unusual stay in a location with an active past, now faded, like stepping into an old film where the guests have left. Facilities described are from previous decades and it feels like going back in time. Still, our tatami room opening onto nature was just what we wanted.

We will be back! WOW. This was a shot in the dark booking since I couldn’t find a place near the beach that was tattoo friendly. We were blown away at the facility, amenities and overall beauty of the location. I booked 3 rooms. Everyone had their own private onsen bath. My husband and I upgraded to the sauna barrel room and we LOVED IT. The guys all did sauna in the morning. They even give you handmade authentic sauna hats. Breakfast was simple but filling. Half of the group did the Japanese style, half did American. My jumbo toast made me feel like I was in a Ghibli movie having breakfast. There is a vending machine in the breakfast area was a variety of snacks and drinks. Our van made it on the roads to the property. So a standard vehicle will have no issue. Beautiful creak flowing in the backyard of every room. Every room has an entrance, toilet & sink room, living room (doubles as bedroom bc you have tatami beds), vanity sink & rack, THEN sliding door to your shower & bath, THEN sliding door to your porch with seating. Our room had the barrel immediately to the left of the porch with ANOTHER outdoor tub. Price was excellent!!

Great location with direct beach access to Tatodhama Beach. The area is very quiet and there is not much around but it's beautiful and quiet and relaxing. The hotel provides regular shuttles in both the morning and the afternoon into Shimoda City which only takes a few minutes, it's approx 30 min walk to Perry Rd or 45 mins to the train station. Or 1400 Yen in a taxi one way to the train station. Kaiseki dinner was amazing! There was so much food and great to try so many different dishes we wouldn't have tried otherwise. Breakfast again was lovely with a lot of food. rooms are clean and spacious. Staying at a Ryokan was a new experience for us so it was lovely to go to dinner and come back to our beds made up ready for the night and then head out for the day and return to the bed magically packed away and the room looking beautiful. Added bonus was the hotel onsen which we made sure to use each day, with various bath options inside and outside and with a lovely view of the ocean. Shimoda Yamatoken played a big part in us falling in love with the area.

Absolutely amazing property. The pictures are 100% accurate. Unlike most places that look nice but are just cobbled together….this place is true luxury. All the appliances, beds, etc…are all best in class. The location is unbeatable. If you’re a surfer the beach has a fun little wave out front and there are 2 surfboards at the house. 5 stars! Highly recommend.

When you talk about luxury properties in Japan with a private pool and a perfect location, this place really sets the bar high! It was wonderful to stay somewhere where everything felt so classy. My family and I have visited many hotels and private houses over the years, but this one felt different. It was the perfect place to celebrate both our wedding anniversary and my grandma’s birthday. The Western-style design stood out compared to ordinary Japanese houses. My mom was also inspired by how beautifully the house was designed. The owner was very helpful and didn’t hesitate to answer calls even at night. Access to the nearest supermarkets, stores, and drugstores is reasonable as long as you have a car.
