For us it was exciting and fascinating to walk around the palace , to look to all historical parts of it . We spend a day in the old part of Split . and walking through the old, narrow streets like falling back in time, spectacular walks and surrounding

The main Split attraction is the old town with the Diocletian Palace - which really is a ruin except for the cathedral, baptistry, and treasury; yet it feels a bit like Rome. And the cathedral is a must (not so much the other places)! Plenty of little pedestrian alleys to walk along, with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants; Portofino and Bokeria were the best. Lots of tourists of course, but not overwhelming. Beautiful promenade right on the harbor, and also a nice walk toward the West along the sea with some beach areas (not always sand) and easy swimming. Alas, the Mestrovic Gallery was closed for renovation, but the Museum of Fine Arts is a beautiful building (converted hospital - really nice outside and inside) with very nice art from Croatian artists. Don't miss a day trip to Krka falls - beautiful park.

Can get a bit crowded around the Diocletian’s Palace part of Split during the day. Get out early and enjoy the area without the crowds. Always easy to grab a bite from the adjoining markets. Not sure if I would like it during peak season.

Amazing place, having a guide gave us information we wouldn't have got by ourselves. HOWEVER THE PLACE IS A PICKPOCKET'S HEAVEN!!! You have to be extremely careful with your bags and anything in your pockets. Such a shame to spoil tourists experiences.

This is a fascinating place with a lot of history and development - get a guide or join a walking tour. The guides are very good and you will get a much better appreciation of what you are looking at as there are so many layers to this city.

Amazing area to stay in when you travel here, full of history and national landmarks. The lights and sculptures are very entrancing at night. Very safe to walk around this area day or night. Lots of food options. The food is amazing. The beaches outside of the city are very clean and excellent swimming conditions. Rent a bike and ask where to go, they will direct you to a park that has the most amazing natural beaches in the area. I loved Croatia.
