The cozy tiny cabin was great, on the edge of town and on the edge of the forest. Shops are at 5 minutes walking distance and the main road at less than 10 minutes, it is indeed not a cabin in the woods, as others have mentioned but more a cabin on a small plot of land surrounded by other people's plots. It's very peaceful nonetheless. The trail to St Ana Volcano starts here, and this trail is not known at all, we had it all to ourselves. Everyone goes to the official panorama viewpoint, which gets very crowded. We had two tours organized which were affordable and the tour guide was amazing, very friendly and just a kind person. The host was amazing and so helpful answering all my questions!! We are super grateful for all of this! They worked on little details and there are curtains now. Thank you!

The owner of this place was really nice. Our flight was canceled 3 times, so we couldn't make it to the time we were supposed to be there, but the owner moved our reservation, and we actually stay there. With no Xtra charge. Thank you.

Like other reviews for Mixtepek the rooms are clean and what you would expect for a hostel. What makes this hostal standout is the hands on approach of the owners Ovi and Daysi. They will help you with any tours, rentals or travel plans. Alonso is always around to assist with any questions you may have if Ovi is not there. In our case, we were injured in an accident and Ovi and Daysi came and picked us up when we were released from the hospital. Not only that, there were no other taxis available, so he drove us to our next destination in Nahuizalco. They are truly amazing people, we are so grateful for their kindness and generosity..

I booked the standard private room and it exceeded my expectations. Usually hostel private rooms are basic but this felt like a hotel, having a washing machine and dryer available was a lifesaver for my trip. The A/C worked perfectly although we didn't really need it because the weather was cool and the beds were super comfortable with sockets right next to them. The indoor and outdoor dining areas are lovely, and the whole property feels peaceful and safe. If you are looking for the social vibe of a hostel but the comfort and privacy of a hotel, this is the place.
