The place was close to town. We rested here for one day after a long day of travel before heading towards Matapalo. The AC in the bedroom was very nice. The host Jose was very nice. He is a surf instructor and we saw him in the water at Matapalo.

Located in Drake, a few steps from Las Caletas Beach, The Sunset Tucano Lodge provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking and a restaurant.

All good reviews you find about this place are true! We stayed last minute 5 nights at an incredible rate in all comfort. Extremely kind hostess Sra, very good air conditioning (takes some time to find the right setting that you don't get even too cold), good matrasses, big pillows, warm shower (even too warm for us, it is was a safety hazard though to change its temperature all the way at the top of the electric heating element, but I'm sure the hostess would have helped if we asked), and they even made up our beds and replenished materials in our room every day, which was totally unexpected! They have a garden area with nice private rooms and outdoor kitchen with fridge, a minute away from the main road, the entry feels like it's your own secret passage way. For beach we walked 10min east on the same boats beach and had a lovely plot for swimming, sunbathing and watching the sunset. In this low season we started as the only guests in the garden area, after two days another group joined. From the hammocks, we could watch red macaws through binoculars for hours, and agoutis, squirrels and frogs right in front of us.

With sea views, Finca Exótica is located in Carate and has a restaurant, a tour desk, bar, garden and terrace. The lodge features both WiFi and private parking free of charge.

Pieza Paraíso in Cabo Matapalo provides accommodations with a garden and barbecue facilities. This beachfront property offers access to a terrace and free private parking.

Ted's place is incredible and feels like the perfect slice of Pura Vida! Getting to Matapalo is an adventure and the accommodations are rustic and open to the environment, so be prepared for bugs, monkeys, birds, sand, etc. Only the bedroom and bathroom have doors that you can close off. We LOVED this aspect of it, but we understand this isn't for everyone. Ted was very helpful in sending directions and we found his place no problem. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Ted, his two wonderful dogs, and some curious monkeys hoping to score our fresh groceries! He showed us around and immediately cut open some fresh coconuts for us to enjoy. The beach is steps away and you can even hear the waves from the jungle bungalow. Ted is a super accommodating host and helped us find everything we needed. It's amazing what Ted has done to make the property a place guests want to return to again and again! Matapalo is a slow-paced beach community and we fell in love instantly. The road through the neighborhood is not for the faint of heart. We had a normal SUV and faired just fine if we went really slow. If you like relaxing on the beach, hiking to waterfalls and waking up to the howler monkeys every morning, this place is PERFECT. There are a few resort restaurants nearby if you want to break up the beach-hangs. We highly recommend giving Martina's a visit (this is a local place, not a resort). All-in-all, we loved our experience here and would 100% recommend Ted's place to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the natural beauty Costa Rica has to offer.

We were right in the jungle and could spot macaws, toucans, couti, and butterflies right from our porch! There is a sloth in a tree by the lodge. It is a gorgeous setting and the accommodations was fantastic! We had our own jacuzzi and pool and total privacy. We didn't want to leave! The staff were also so wonderful and helpful. They were super responsive and went above and beyond to meet our needs--even installing another A/C so we would be more comfortable!

Casa Trogan is all about the location! Right up from the beautiful beach. Lots of wildlife and birds too. It's a very clean place and the hosts are very responsive. Great kitchen for cooking too!

Property right on the beach with everything you need; clean and spacious room, big bathroom, air conditioning, fast wifi, shared kitchen with private refrigerator in your room. Also, cooking oil was provided in kitchen. The area was quiet and the property only seemed like it had 3 units, making a more intimate environment.

If you’re looking for a piece of paradise that’s off the beaten track but a 2 minute walk from a beautiful swimming beach, this is it. We can’t rave enough about this fantastic place. The room is very clean (and cleaned daily), the fan works great, the bed is super comfy and sheets and towels are changed frequently. There were even fresh flowers in our room and welcome coconut drinks when we arrived. The patio, which looks out onto the beautiful garden, is very tranquil and we saw a sloth, an ant eater and tons of birds, including toucans and hummingbirds right from the deck. The hosts, Rafa and Esther, are super helpful and assisted with ferry transportation from Sierpe, transporting our bags from the boat to the accommodation and did our laundry for a reasonable fee. Ester is a fantastic cook and every morning we had a different, delicious breakfast (included with stay). There is an onsite soda (simple restaurant) and everything we tried was very tasty. The ceviche was fresh and delicious and we tried every type of Casado (typical meal of rice, beans, salad and your choice of protein) as well as the tacos and hamburgers and found all to be well presented and yummy. This small, family run ecolodge is about an hour walk from Drake Bay along a beautiful, well marked trail. You can arrange for tours (dolphin, Cano Island snorkelling, Corcovado) to pick you up at one of the beaches close by so you don’t have to worry about not being in town. We loved our jungle experience so much we originally booked 5 nights but stayed 11!
