I liked the crisp air and birds but that's where it ends.

I liked the crisp air and birds but that's where it ends. The locals are not friendly and seem almost angry you are there especially the man at the local "pub" which is not a pub. Peppers is a huge let down, in desperate need of a facelift as it is old and tired looking. The room was small, tv is old, there is no netflix etc and casting was a nightmare that just did not work. The room is old looking, bathroom had chipped tiles and the bathroom door had water damage from the bottom which had swollen. Walls so thin which made it difficult to sleep with children all around and above us waking up at the crack of dawn running and screaming. Several attempts to advise reception staff that we had paid the deposit for the massage at their facility even producing the C/C receipt and they still charged it to my account; they could not reverse it while there. They did manage to get it refunded. Not a good experience. The town itself is small and cute but not much to do if that is what you are after. The few shops are expensive, and you just end up in a coffee shop or the park. Not worth the effort or money unless you just want to sit or walk.

This was a weekend getaway without kids and we had an amazing dinner at the Yarra Glen Hotel on the Friday. Our stay at Balgownie Estate was great with fantastic rooms and buffet breakfast and our two lunches at Rochford were also great. We had lunch at Isabella's the winery restaurant and at Il Vignetto (pizza/pasta restaurant). Both were fantastic. We love the area and also went to the Yarra Valley Dairy and Coldstream Dairy. Also the fruit market. Of course no visit will be without visiting the Chocolatier....

Beautiful picturesque little town.

Beautiful picturesque little town. Too busy with tourists for my liking, but I totally understand why people would come here. With the number of restaurants and cafes along the main road, there's something for everyone, and the little shops are charming. The people are welcoming and wonderful. Love this place!

The owners were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing - such a choice in the provisions that were supplied! Cooking facilities meant we could cook the bacon and eggs; croissants were humungous and very fresh! Yummy!! Although it was a cold night outside, the studio was very cosy - heating worked well and electric blanket warmed up the very comfy bed. The location was very peaceful.

Our room was perfect, the bed was wonderful, even my husband who is a poor sleeper, slept well, the shower was fantastic and the patio was a delightful surprise complete with a pond and wildlife to help unwind and relax. The rooms are stage in a way that you feel like you are on your own but if you had children, there was space for them to burn energy and be cooped in a room. Dinner in the bistro was just normal food, not special but good and the staff everywhere were friendly and smiled, i appreciated the smiles. a few miles up the road was the township of Mt Evelyn where wee found yummy bakeries and shops to explore and nearby nursuries often had breakfasts. You need to stay here.

We liked the rural aspect of the town.

We liked the rural aspect of the town. As we came for a private function, we didn't have any time to explore the local attractions. As we have been there before we have seen some of the area. I particularly liked travelling up Mt Dandenong to Olinda for the eateries and the gift shops. We found that we needed a car to get around.
