Wonderful location just outside Tambopata national park filled with wildlife. Host was absolutely amazing looked after us like family. Gave us different breakfasts every day and drove us to places at a cheaper cost than outside. No mosquito nets were needed as the top of the room was netted where insects could get in. Peaceful location in front of the river.

If you come to Puerto Maldonado to experience the Peruvian jungle, this lodge is the best place for it. Ongoing activities every day take you for walks in the jungle and on boat rides on the river with an experienced guide who shows you around and explains everything. We saw lots of animals with the help of the guide we would never have been able to discover on our own. The lodge itself is seated right in the jungle and you can feel, breathe, and hear it all through your visit. At the same time, the rooms are clean and comfortable with air conditioning and a balcony to chill on. The pool is also really nice with an integrated pool bar. The food was also great so there was nothing left to wish for.

Fascinating experience. We were assigned a guide Savon, who grew up in the area and was a certified tour guide. He created our itineraries for each day. With his help, we saw all kinds of animals in the jungle, and took pictures through his man ocular. The night tour was most fascinating. There are so many unusual insects! Thank you Savon! We also liked at the pace, wasn't too intense, and there was plenty of time to relax. Food was very good. All three meals. Much more food than we needed. I appreciated the coffee being available early . The property is beautifully furnished and designed. With local woods. Very comfortable. Enjoy the hammocks.. Had a massage that was exquisite. This is an experience. That's worth every penny!

We loved the location, the staff, the food and the planned excursions were all wonderful. Our room was in the main lodge. There was only an option to book one room type so I’m not sure why we were here. I was expecting to be in one of the cabins. It was so noisy where we were. You can hear the shower running and people talking in the next room. The sound of someone walking past our room was really amplified and trying to take a nap during the day was not possible. It was very peaceful from 10pm though so we slept well at night. Overall we loved our experience here, just the room was disappointing.

Clean, comfortable, air conditioned room, quiet, warm water for shower!, table & chair in room, plenty of storage in room, good free breakfast. Very hospitable and helpful and friendly. My room was cleaned and linens changed and toilet paper roll renewed daily. 30 minute walk to the Main Square, so I sometimes got a motorbike taxi for 5 Sols or so.

Regarding the town of Puerto Maldonado itself, I would have to say it was pretty unimpressive. We did find a gem of a coffee shop (Fauna), but other than that it’s a little bit rough and sad. Definitely the jumping off point for all of the lodges and excursions - but the town itself is not a highlight unfortunately.

Shintuyu Hot Springs has beautifully local engineered pool landscaped in natural environment, where I was able to watch monkeys eating in nearby trees, a humming bird extract nectar from bright red flowers next to the pool, beautiful butterflies of various colours flutter by. I visited waterfalls - one of which is the most impressive in my recent memory. Jhohan paid attention to my needs and is from the local area with lots of knowledge to share covering culture, plant and animal life, the water sources; river & hot springs.

A great city with a relaxed atmosphere, the people here are very friendly and helpful. Loads of options for eating and drinking at very cheap prices. Street food is definitely worth a try as are the tiny street corner bars for empanadas and a glass of some kind of juice. Try Flama Central on Av Cusco for great grilled meats. Hamburgo for a burger. Any of the bars for big bottles of Cusqena beer, pilsner, trigo, dorada or negra, they’re all great. Head to the ferry port and talk to the family running the bar there about a river trip with Edu, one of the sons who is a guide. After dusk you might get to see Owl monkeys a little further along the river bank. Again, ask Edu It’s easy to walk the grid system but you can always flag down a moto if you’re feeling weary. Head to the Cacao centre to eat or drink and you might see a family of tamarins passing through or an agouti.
