The view from our rooms was astounding. The rooms were comfortable with very nice fixtures and furniture. Everything was immaculate. When we arrived after a long, rainy day on the road, we were so pleased to be able to have dinner in the Gastrube instead of driving elsewhere. The food was prepared by a chef that loves to cook. The taste and presentation were both phenomenal! It was such an unexpected treat. We enjoyed interacting with the family of this family run business and found everyone to be gracious and friendly.

The hotel and owners were lovely and very welcoming. It is in a quiet village where you can enjoy the countryside and stay away from the very touristy parts nearby, but can still go see them very easily (less than 10 mins away from all the popular hikes, and you get a great view of the mountains as you drive towards them). The dinner menu is great and the breakfast is filling with lots of variety. It gave us a chance to try the different sorts of local cheese!

Amazing accommodation, new and modern, sparkling clean. Breakfast was with fresh local home made jam, home made yogurt, cheese, drinks. Lucas, the owner, is the great host - made us feel relaxed, helped with all questions and local recommendations. The best place to stay away on vacation!

Appenzell is a charming traditional Swiss town with beautiful buildings and pedestrian areas. There are lots of welcoming cafés with outdoor seating serving often local fare, the apfel strudel at zum Drei Köneg is amazing.

We arrived by car but walked back to Appenzell when we...

We arrived by car but walked back to Appenzell when we checked out to catch a train. It was a beautiful walk through meadows and woods and took 2 hours 45 minutes. The staff were friendly and the place very clean. Excellent location for walking . On one walk we stopped for coffee at the Ahorn and it was lovely.

The town is quaint and small.

The town is quaint and small. We had a very nice dinner at the Restaurant Sonne. The real adventures were taking the gondola up to Ebenalp - views were amazing and then the next day hiking up to the Seealpsee, which was spectacular. We were there in early April and they had just had a lot of snow, so be prepared for snow if you go in early spring!

Weissbad Lodge is a lovely place, casual, with reduced service but excellent very modern and comfortable rooms just adjacent to the Weissbad train station and not far from the town of Appenzell and the the Ebenalp and Hoher Kasten cable cars. It is a lovely tranquil area to spend a few days. Especially innovative is the breakfast delivered in a paper bag to your door in the morning and the Generosity Wall which has a coffee machine, a snack machine, a microwave , utensils etc. to make your stay more pleasant. The main Hof Weissbad hotel is nearby and available for for first class restaurant meals as is the really fine Alpenhof family restaurant just across the small river that runs by the lodge. It should be noted that the Appenzell Card is a terrific free offer for guests who stay three nights in the canton: it includes train travel from anywhere in Switzerland, free local public transport entrance to a number of museums and other attractions as well as cable car rides. Really a special deal.

Appenzell is a very nice town to visit.

Appenzell is a very nice town to visit. The town itself is very picturesque. Shops, restaurants, and lots of places to go hiking and see the beautiful countryside. Very easy to take the trains anywhere in the area to see other points of interest like Hoher Kasten or Santis, etc.
