Comfortable, spacious cabin. Comfortable beds. Nice view of lake. Clean. Mostly quiet, although we could occasionally hear the neighbors coming or going. We loved the sauna. It had all the basic things we needed - fridge, dish washer, microwave, washer-dryer. We paid extra for linens. Lake was swim-able, if a bit cold. Can walk to town via the bike path.

That was a great stand-alone house with excellent facilities and with a sauna. The hosts were very nice and responsive and helped us with some moments. There is a cafe and snowmobile safari nearby, there is also a ski resort an hour away. As a bonus, the hosts left us a Christmas tree!

The whole town is in the middle of nowhere, even by Finnish standards. But then again, this is probably the appeal :) There is a train stop though on the Helsinki-Kuopio-Oulu line for Paltamo, which is about a 10 minute walk prom the property. There are big stores and a petrol station too nearby, and of course the river and the lake, which are beautiful. You can swim too, if you want. The property is a large and fairly luxurious private home by appearance, divided into some private bedrooms and generously large common areas, like kitchen and bathroom. All very clean at the time of my visit.
