"we only stayed overnight passing through. i had time to walk into the old town which is full of lovely shops. I was walking before the shops opened and would have loved to have browsed later in the day but had no time. i didn't have time to go to the church. If you are interested then there is a beautiful church in the middle of the old town. I needed to buy a suitcase and was able to find exactly what i wanted out in an outskirt shopping centre (shops, supermarket as is typical of French towns). Auxerre is close to Burgundy region. Chablis is beautiful...we have been there before . Champagne isn't too far north if you are afwine connoisseur."

"This was our first time visiting Chablis and we loved it. We stayed in a hotel in the center of town that we thoroughly enjoyed. Everything was within walking distance, so we never had to move the car once we parked it. There is a spacious free, parking lot as street parking would be difficult. The town was very charming. We enjoyed walking around and stopping into some of the little shops. Of course, Chablis is home to some fabulous wines and wineries, so we did our share of tasting. We just arrived home and we are already talking about returning to see the things we couldn't get to on this trip."

We paid a little extra for a "super" large room,,,and it was worth it. This hotel had rooms that were "motel style", where each room had its own entrance, and you could park at the door. This was particularly useful to us, because it was our last night on the road, and we had to do a lot of repacking. Also they had a nice indoor pool.

This was our 4 or 5th stay...amazing little place! Spotless, terrific shower, crisp sheets, and lots of charm with outside pleasant places to sit. The food? Worth going out of the way to dine here but just minutes off of Rt 6. Food was wonderful and the waitstaff very well trained and pleasant. AND quirky: the decor of this antique (mill?) is just wonderful...chock full of antiques and artifacts and great statues: full size stone pig graces one seating area and a rooster the size of an elephant another. No matter where you look or turn there is something to see.

I had some idea of the wine I wished to taste. They confirmed my choice. Beyond expectations ! Always available for any help, advises. Along my experience in hotel reservations, I never experienced such immediate Internet feedback always fully documented. Free parking : nice !

Auxerre was a nice town with a good mix of old historic buildings and new modern ones. There were grocery stores and retail stores to meet our needs and some great restaurants to choose from. It was easy to get to the surrounding towns for wine like Inacy and Chelbis. I'd highly recommend if you are looking to stay in Burgundy for wine and don't want to stay in Dijon. There are plenty of bars but nightlife slows down well before midnight. During the offseaon (Nov-April) many of the stores and restruants are close Sunday-Tuesday. We were able to find plenty during our stay but somethign to be aware of. We stayed 2 nights which was just the right amount of time. Any longer we may have gotten a little bored.

Vézelay is a crazy place.

Vézelay is a crazy place. It is hyped up in every tourist guide on the Bourgogne you can find, but it is actually a one street village on the top of a mountain whose only attraction is an oversized cathedral on the Way of St. James, and some tourist shops for decorative arts (if you like that). Rural exodus is unmistakable, there are several buildings for sale, and the ladies who run the hotel where we stayed told us that the village has only 70 regular inhabitants left, the rest are pilgrims and tourists. We only stayed for one night, passing through on our way back home, and for us it was perfect as it was. The hotel (Les Glycines) was great, very recommendable, the surrounding landscape is beautiful and possibly nice to explore wandering (we didn't try). Vézelay also seems to be a hot spot for pilgrims who find company there.

This was our first visit to this delightful stylish, interesting town. We enjoyed walking along the riverside with its vibrant residential houseboat community, exploring the back street and discovering a truly wonderful restaurant in what once was a magnificent private home. Our host was charming and very welcoming and his property exuded character and its centuries old history. We will certainly visit again and stay in the same hotel.

We felt Sens was a lovely town, lots to do, places to eat and drink and plenty of culture, parcs and gardens. We found a lovely mix of people living there and also visiting like us. Local activities were plentiful, from a beer festival to the very good Saturday food market which offered voucher incentives. We loved the atmosphere from the Tabacs to the bistro which offered lovely food. The tourist information centre was very helpful and we hired bicycles, which was fun exploring along the river Yonne. We enjoyed seeing and hearing the nightly starling murmurations.
