If we could add a sixth star just for Emma, one of the staff members at this hotel, we would. She was a rock star! In fact, all of the charming staff at this inn, including Manuel, Jennifer and Daniel, make it a lodging with a beautiful view and big heart! We stayed in Silver Howe and loved the view of Wordsworth's grounds and the sheep. The location right next to a bus stop, the center of Grasmere and hiking trails allowed us to have our entire vacation without a car. The rooms were clean, and the breakfast every morning was incredible! It had a continental component (yogurt, coffee, pastry and more) AND a hot plate (sausage, hash browns, eggs and more), all included in the price of our room. At night, we loved the hotel bar and enjoyed sharing stories with the staff and other visitors, as well as seeing the amazing dogs of some of the guests. We will definitely come back.

You won't find a better location in the lake district, with not only a splendid view over Ullswater right from the hotel itself, but also fine walks nearby. The rooms are more luxurious than the exterior might suggest. They are extremely comfortable and beautifully appointed. The public areas of the hotel are filled with character and haven't been overly restored to please spoiled travelers. Overall, a place to return to happily.

Glenridding is a beautiful place to visit lots to do .

Glenridding is a beautiful place to visit lots to do . You can hire boats go on a ferry to Pooley bridge go walking lovely cafes & especially The Ramblers that was beautiful for morning coffee so highly recommended Glenridding.. And as for the beautiful scenery what more could you ask for 10 & a load more stars 🌟 just being around the lake people watching & relaxing as long as you’ve got the weather. There’s a lovely cafe just by the lake & again the views sheer bliss I don’t do walking but am happy to soak up the beauty that is Glenridding. There is a bus that takes you to Penrith or Windermere 508 & it’s a great place for walkers too ..

Pooley Bridge is a fascinating place (village? town?)

Pooley Bridge is a fascinating place (village? town?) I'll be back soon. The huge wood above is a walkers paradise and apparently there are remains from way back on top. D'you know any walking and'or cycling guides? That would be really useful for us townies. Another feature I'm interested in is the fact that Ullswater is the source of a river, not the other way round...... can you work out which river? Cycling down to Howtown is cycling bliss. The question is can you go over the top further on down?

We have stayed in Watermillock for 2 nights. We had excellent experience. The property is very big. Rooms are good size. Outside garden with well running just next to it is amazing. WIFI was a bit slow, but with all of us using mobile network, we did not mind at all. Highly recommend and would surely come back again.

A small village - but very near to the M6 so easy access to a beautiful part of the lakes. The pub is a great traditional pub - we had a few drinks after walking before we had dinner at our accommodation. Very friendly. Beautiful countryside and no through traffic. Easy to get to Pooley Bridge or along Ullswater. Close to 3 smaller Wainwrights as well for those wanting to climb a bit higher. Aira Force is very close and makes a great walk - around 2 hours or so to the top of Gowbarrow via the falls - wonderful for a picnic lunch! Loads to explore from here - one visit just isn't enough!

Glenridding in cooler weather is calm, peaceful and friendly. The village stores on the corner has friendly staff, all shops have good stock. Hotels are welcoming. Easy to stroll round the village for short leg stretches and there are many footpaths to set off for more challenging routes. Easy access to the waters edge from the village. An excellent roadside path to Patterdale, its interesting church, another hotel and pub, and further walking routes. Bus connection to the rest of the lakes and Penrith. Ullswater Steamers have a main jetty and there is a yacht club. By St Patricks Well, only 2 minutes walk from the village, there is a lovely cafe, boat hire and other recreational facilities.

There are some great shops, a lovely Bookshop cafe, run by two great women where we had a great cup of coffee and some toast and marmalade. They were very friendly and after we looked for some books. Not all places are wheelchair friendly, so you may have to Google it for yourself.

Patterdale is stunning, beautiful scenery and great walks right from the start. Not too far to walk to Glenridding, about 15 - 20 mins where you'll find a couple of shops, cafes and pubs. A nice place to sit after a walk is the In on the lake where non residents can use the hotel for a drink or something to eat. You can also get the steamers from Glenridding and walk / sit by the lake. There is a bus that runs from patterdale too. The White lion pub in Patterdale is a great place for a drink and dinner, great food and cosy atmosphere.
