"Lecce is a gem in baroque. I recommend taking a guided tour (takes place every day, also in English) to get an overview and feel for the city and it’s history. The biggest surprise to me was the Faggiano museum. Please visit!"

"Brindisi is an underrated town. The scenic promenade has had major investment and it is lovely to walk along the historic waterfront without traffic. It has the largest harbour I have ever seen. Some great places to sit and admire the sunset with a spritz and a good choice of restaurants. We ate at Loconda Del Porto which was my favourite meal in Puglia (busy, popular with the locals so you would be best to book.) The free museum near the Duomo is very interesting. If flying in or out of Brindisi airport, it is well worth spending a night here and we felt perfectly safe in the Old Town area."

"We went to Taranto for a music festival. But Taranto is more than that. If you are looking for authentic southern Italy with almost no other tourists around - this is the place. It has the sea, a lovely authentic old town and very nice and helpful locals. A nice non-touristic weekend destination. Go to the old town on the small island (where the Castello is) for traditional food. No dinner options before 8 pm but then it’s thriving. Lovely original atmosphere."

"It is a lovely town, if you’ve got a car and need to park use the easy park app. All the restaurants are great apart from the first one we went to called loquita unfortunately we got a unhelpful Italian waiter but we were eventually helped by the other waiters and waitresses. Loved my gelato at La Fica Paccia the staff were so friendly their. Also check out the take aways on the road sides all freshly made. Had a private 1.5hr boat ride excellent with Alexander’s boats we had Vito who was an excellent tour guide kept our little man (6yrs old) very entertained we did swim a little which Vito made sure life jacket was secure on our child it was great seeing all the coral and fishes remember to take you own snorkelling stuff but there are complementary extras on the boat plus you get a soft drink and prosseco and water also a pack of Italian biscuits, most of the locals are lovely, friendly people as with most destinations you go. Food is mainly delicious sea food."

A beautiful property with lots of history! Our room was incredible! Very spacious, spotlessly clean and an old staircase (not accessible) in the bathroom. The staff were welcoming and so helpful. The pool area is lovely with shades and plenty of seating/lounges and a fresh water outdoor shower. Breakfast was wonderful. Sad to leave after only 1 night.

FAQs about hotels in Salento

A Magic Southern Jewel

Comprising the south part of Italy’s Region of Puglia, the Salento peninsula is located in the ‘heel’ of the Italian ‘boot’. With an unusual and beautiful landscape, it also has traditions shaped by explorers and invaders from a variety of cultures that reached its coasts.

If Salento is a jewel, the main piece is definitely the city of Lecce. Its walled historic centre is greatly admired for the uniqueness of its Baroque style. It also has a Roman theatre and a Greek amphitheatre, both still in use. Try a hotel in Lecce’s old town and go back in time!

Blessed with the waters from the Ionian and the Adriatic seas, its rocky coves and small sandy inlets contrast with the light blue waters. Popular beach hotels in Puglia’s Salento region are located near the Alimini Lakes and the Portoselvaggio Bay.

Other important coastal areas are Porto Cesareo, Torre dell'Orso, Santa Maria di Leuca and Santa Cesarea Terme. Gallipoli and Otranto deserve a visit not only for their beaches, but also because of their beautiful historic centres, mostly shaped during the Aragonese domination of the area.

It was so lovely everything being single storey. Such a sense of space and escape. The food was so great. Some of the buffet can be a bit underwhelming, but when you figure out which of the counters to go to for the best food, you're on to a winner. The speciality stall at lunch was incredible. The apertivo times were so good. Such amazing variety. And to cook pasta on mass and still be brilliantly at dente is super impressive. The flavours were amazing, the olive oil available for the tables was so delicious. The staff were all so lovely and accommodating. The kids club and the entertainment activities were so much fun. The beach is small but paradise. The main pool is amazing. Always more than enough sunbeds and umbrellas, and an excellent temperature.

Me and my boyfriend stayed for a long weekend in May at this beautiful, truly private, magical place and we had the best time. The people, especially the host, Adriano, were extremely kind, warm and welcoming, it was hard to leave. The property is stunning, a dreamy place with history, the rooms we saw (we had to switch at some point) were very classy and beautiful. The perfect place to charge batteries, also, incredible food. I am absolutely thrilled and will hopefully be able to come back some time!

Breakfast is divine. A healthy selection of fruit, yogurt, juices and the most inviting selection of pastries. I loved the grounds and patios - so beautifully decorated with large pottery urns overflowing with blossoms. I loved listening to the bees buzzing and the birds singing when I first wake up of a morning and seeing all the colourful blossoms - particularly the brilliant bougainvilleas.

If you can go to Lecce GO, you will not be disappointed. I was in Rome for a couple of days prior, the temperature was the same in Rome and Lecce, but there is a breeze that goes thru Lecce (this was everyday I was there), where you do not feel uncomfortable in any way unlike Rome where the humidity is always so high. The people are a delight, Lecce is beautiful. I would go back in a heartbeat.

It's a beautiful town, with tight alleys, excellent for strolling. There are a couple of things to see, like the Co-cathedral, but the strong point are the restaurants and bars - very lively and high quality. Worth spending 1 day to visit and enjoy. Great to have the base in Ostuni an go out in the evening for dinner and/or drinks.

Brindisi was my last destination of my trip in Puglia. It served as my base for traveling around. I was staying at the Executive Inn Boutique Hotel only a few minutes from train station which was extremely convenient. Love the evenings walking along the harbor. There are not lot to do and see in Brindisi but you are definitely getting the relaxing feeling of proper summer holidays. I had the best pizza of my whole trip, was called The boss. The sea is really beautiful, transparent blue water.

The sea is really beautiful, transparent blue water. The shore decline slowly into the water, allowing fun for children and not swimmers. The beach itself is very crowded, almost not possible to walk trough the towels and the beach umbrellas. Most of the beach is free entrance, so you may save some money. The few organized beaches are always full. All along the shore you will find some beach restaurant and bars for the day. If you want to find larger beach and less crowded you shall take a car and drive 15 minutes to Baia deglie Angeli / Punta prosciutto. This is a small city on the coast, mainly visited by locals or italian tourists. It is not a typical tourist place with fun and shops. Most of the time you shall stay on the beach, because the shops will open around 5pm. Evening life start about 8 pm and it concentrated on a central street with some restaurants. Prices are fair. For the evening, you can find some action in Porto Cesareo (15 minutes) Santa Caterina (30 minutes) or Gallipoli (45 minutes). Take care that parking is really messy.

It's a quiet lovely town.

It's a quiet lovely town. It doesn't have a picturesque old town but has a decent selection of good places to eat. The beach was amazing, we stayed for a couple of days there and didn't feel we had enough.

A truly beautiful place, so much to see and some great restaurants. The museums, churches, architecture all beautiful. I would say three days would be ideal, an excellent place for a short break. Traffic into the old town is restricted across the middle opf the day, which enhances the appeal.
