Moises was a superb host. He was very intuitive and proactive about all our needs. He went out of his way to make sure we had an outstanding visit. The grounds were nice. It was awesome to be so close to the forest. One of us saw toucans. It is a short drive or taxi ride to town. The ladies loved the pool.

Honestly, this was probably the best value hotel we have stayed at in Mexico. The rooms are very spacious and well decorated. The lobby is beautiful. Obviously, the location is great to see Calakmul. We also really enjoyed the pool in the evening. Complaints about the food have been exaggerated or it has greatly improved. Food is a little on the pricey side, but nothing outside the norm of a resort hotel in Mexico + the logistics of the location. I would recommend bringing some snacks and water (for convenience) just because there is nothing else around and choices are limited.

We had the Colibri hut and it was absolutely beautiful, one of our favorite accommodations in Mexico. It was super comfortable even though you feel lost in the jungle. The restaurant was also good!

It is good to realize that this is an 'eco-hotel' which means you will not find a pool, air-conditioning or some other services you may want to see, but which are too expensive to uphold in a remote location. However, the rooms are nice and clean, the beds are comfortable, and it should be cool even during the hot season. The quality of service far exceeds anything you could expect from a 5-star hotel - the people are warm and happy to help. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The restaurant is open from 6 am to 8 pm; so, even if you are just driving by, it is a nice place to stop for a lunch. The property belongs to the local community of Conhuas and is ran by the people from the community. So, staying at this place helps them to earn their living and keep growing the community, which is not a small feat for the remote places of Yukatan. Also, the location is good for a visit to Calakmul (one of the most developed and important Mayan city-states of its time). There are many other attractions within reach - Cueva de Murcielago, Balam-Ku, Rio Bec and other small sites. The infrastructure is developing in the area, and there is a gas station on the highway; right before you take your turn to the hotel. And a reminder for anyone travelling in Mexico - bring your own mosquito repellent. Either as a spray or as an electrical plug. This may save your night. Even though the cabins are well covered to prevent insects from getting in, some still find a way.

This hotel is nestled away up a side street about 3 blocks or so from the main highway thru. town. They do a good business, and deserve it. They are a choice for tour groups and professionals working away from home. They have off-street parking, which is motorcycle friendly which is important to some (like me). The staff is friendly and efficient. They have an on-site restaurant which serves great food and is of course very convenient. There is a convenience store just 2 blocks away that is fairly well stocked.

Walking distance from the hotel; a cool, but small ruin.

Walking distance from the hotel; a cool, but small ruin. Becán is also close (5 -10min by car) and a much larger and more interesting ruin - toucans, mot-mots, bat-falcons - plan for 2+ hrs. Chicanná is also near (10-15min by car), plan for 1+ hr - easy to do all three in a day. 2 or 3 restaurants within walking distance from Xpujil ruins (across the street); town of Xpujil is nice with other simple options and another charming, budget hotel (El Hormiguero hotel) that other travelers liked - tucked three or so blocks into the town itself).

The Maya train is now functional.

The Maya train is now functional. Apparently most travelers go to Calakmul, the larger Maya archaological site in the area. But there are other hidden treasures! We visited Becan, Hormiguero and Xpujil archaeological sites, and we were generally the only ones there . We were a group of bird watchers, and there are fantastic birds to see going to and at each archaeological site. Our guide, when separated from the group, came face to face with a jaguar on the road. Wow! The most amazing natural attraction in the area is the bat cave that has the largest cocnentration of bats in all of the Americas-- some 3 million! You can view this phenomenon by arriving around 4:30 or 5 pm for a short guided walk to the cave opening. Xpujil has several great (and inexpensive) restaurants.

It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology.

It is well placed for some fascinating archaeology. But you need to be up for a "half horse" town. To get to a basic restaurant we walked through the middle of roadworks. Most roads giving access to the hotel were closed for road works and of course there are no diversions..you just work it out! But the archaeology is fabulous though to get to Calakmul was a 3 hour drive each way .
