We really liked the design, as well as the cleanliness and scent of the place, which you notice as soon as you enter. Everything was spotless, and the amenities were very nice. The extra robes, sandals, and shopping bag offered for use during your stay were a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed the welcome mezcal and the friendly staff. Communication was great, and the little city guide with recommendations was very well done. It would be nice to add an online map in addition to the printed maps they provide. Our small private patio was perfect to use at night, and while we didn’t get a chance to try the pool or bar, they looked lovely. Everyone was very kind, especially Ivan and Rebecca, who were amazing.

They accommodated my requests above and beyond! I arrived several hours earlier than the check-in starts, but because I had told them when I would be there they were so lovely to prepare my room super early for me! Danny is such a lovely guy! The beaches are beautiful and the staff and food are great, but our most favorite was the water sport options. The kayak, the paddle boards, the sailboat. We took a class with Paco to learn how to sail and he was awesome. I think the option of sporty, healthy ntertainment it's great.

One of my dreams was to visit Oaxaca and I'm so glad I finally made the decision to visit. There was so much happening while I was there. The Mezcal Festival, the Guelaguetza Festival and the Oaxaca de Mil Sabores event. The food was amazing, tried all that I could handle. The locals are friendly, getting around was simply but I did use apple maps to get around but my destinations were walking distances. I recommend you take some tours. The tour guides are all over town offering tours. Oaxaca was a great experience and definitely a place I would go back to visit.

We found accommodations and restaurants very expensive.

We found accommodations and restaurants very expensive. We can travel to Europe and spend a day at the beach for less money - at several beaches, it costs 1000 pesos for 2 people to rent loungers AND you have to buy 500 pesos worth of food (or just pay the 500) - that is nuts when most of the beaches were not swimmable, just for surfing. We lived in Mexico for 6 years and travelled around the country a fair bit - we have never seen a place with so many buildings abandoned in the construction stage, nor so many people passed out on the street (our guess alcohol). We did not get a feeling of any kind of culture here. It was very disappointing.

Santa Cruz is a perfect area with the main market right there and many really good restuarants all nearby. Also only a 15-20 minute walk or short cab ride to downtown Huatulco. It is easy to get around Santa Cruz and never felt unsafe at anytime. We were right in front of the marina so easy to find a boat excursion of which there were many. Every Sat.there is a local market in the l park, of all hand made products, live music, and local food vendors. Great way to spend half a day.

What a stunning coast and area.

What a stunning coast and area. Full of the most incredible nature. Talk to any of the beach bar and they can help you to book a boat tour seeing dolphins and turtles that you can snorkel round. Depending on the time of year I was able to even help baby sea turtles. The only downside is the ocean is very rough. It is not the sort of beach you can swim in so if you like to swim make sure your hotel has a pool. Also bring cash still lots of place that were cash only and not great ATMs around.

Zipolite speaks to you or it doesn't.

Zipolite speaks to you or it doesn't. Mexico's only official nudist beach, it is much more than a surfer capital, a yoga hotspot and LGBTQ+2 neutral zone. Zipolite is Tuluum 30 years ago before the Raves. The most tolerant, most respectful people from around the world find their way to Zipolite. Many are queer. Many are old heterosexual couples who like the peace. There is a cafe on the main drag run by two gay italian brothers who named the place tuttifrutti. Get a cup of coffee there.

This strip of Oaxacan coast from Huatulco to Puerto Escondido offers the communities of Puerto Angel, Zipolite, San Agustinillo, and Mazunte. Each has their own character.... and having explored these areas a number of times since 1989, I would say that San Agustinillo offers the best blend of hotels, restaurants, and beaches.

A colourful, interesting city/large town with interesting shops and restaurants with innovative cuisine. Lovely unspoilt streets with brightly painted buildings, and a lot of interesting original architecture. Plenty of culture (churches, museums) coupled with a contemporary individual vibe. Visit the markets for a real picture of everyday life. And we were very pleased that we made the effort to get to Mount Alban. Our visit was slightly disrupted by encampment of protestors occupying the centre of the city making getting around there a bit difficult and getting to/from the airport. But that was just when we were there May 2026

This is such a great, accessible place.

This is such a great, accessible place. I am a solo female visitor to Huatulco in my 30s from America. I speak some Spanish, but Huatulco is very doable if you don't. It is one of the few towns in Oaxaca where most people have English skills and everyone is so welcoming and friendly. On Saturdays, by the cruise ship bridge, there is an AWESOME, health-focused farmer's market with live music. I went back to Huatulco multiple times from the state capitol, Oaxaca de Juarez, via Puerto Escondido and the ADO bus/new highway (3 hrs to PE, then 2.5 hrs, $20USD). I took this trip often mostly for spending the weekend at the very nice/coral reef beaches and visiting this particular market. If you go to Oaxaca, definitely opt for Huatulco. This area has cleaner, healthier water and is more organized than Puerto Escondido. Note: the highway is finished from OAX to P. Escondido, but 60%ish finished from Huatulco to OAX as of Jan 2026. To avoid slow travels and some bumps, I usually cross the mountains from the finished PE-OAX highway/carretera nuevo and then travel along the coast via the established coastal highways. ADO offers the nicest, SAFEST bus experience with no one else even comparable.
