The hotel was an epitome of the IKEA brand. From the furniture, maximizing small spaces, functionality, design and quirkiness. I was surprised that they even gave us free tickets to the IKEA Museum! The breakfast was pretty decent, too.

This is a great place to stay for a few days, with a few exceptions one has to be aware of (see below). We loved the cozy feel of the house and the sunny terrace overlooking the lake. The apartment is well equipped for cooking and cleaning (if you decide to do the cleaning yourself) and there is even a washing machine/dryer in the apartment. It was very quiet at night. There is a coop (grocery store) a 3 min drive away. The moose park is very close, and there are beautiful running /walking trails through forest to two small lakes very close by. The pools which are part of the property were very clean, and despite the summer season not crowded. Loved the fact that there were two hot whirl pools in addition to the regular pools. The Minigolf corse is also great!

The property is in a lovely old Swedish manor house. I don’t think it will remain a bed and breakfast for long, unfortunately, as the new owners have other plans. The property is convenient to the Swedish glass works, and it’s an easy drive into Kalmar (which has a great castle), and Växjö, which has a wonderful glass museum and emigrant museum. The breakfast at Grimsnäs Herrgård was very good, with a wide selection. And the owners kindly allowed us to do a load of laundry, and made a kitchen available to us. Our room was charming.

Beautiful 20th century castle with lovely grounds. Large, elegant room with antique furniture & paintings & a view over the nearby lake. Bathrobes and slippers provided. Classy, comfortable dining rooms furnished with antiques and lots of large, paintings in gilded frames. Nice dinner service and food. Included breakfast was good too. Nature trail around lake with par-course was a delightful way to start the day.

The hotel is in the center of town, a 5 minute walk to the train station. Public parking is next to the hotel; after 6 pm it is free until 9 am. Though the hotel appears old on the outside, it has very nice interior and rooms. The rooms had good lighting and Wi-fi Breakfast was excellent.

Almhult is home for two IKEA stores: the unique IKEA museum...

Almhult is home for two IKEA stores: the unique IKEA museum (the former IKEA store; the first big one!), and a regular store a short drive away. So this is a treat for IKEA fans. But note that the city itself is not lively at all; in fact, it is hard to spot more than one other person at any given time. So there is apparently not much prospect for wild partying. There is a nice lake at the border of the city, but it is slightly too far away to walk from the IKEA hotel. Altogether, for those who treasure Swedish values (restraint, silence, calmness...), this would be an almost therapeutic place.

The building was charming, romantic swedish style in quite surroundings with hreen areas . The house was clean and kitchen facilities very fine. Nice dining area with tv. Toilet neat and clean, and with a basket filled with little fresh towels. Excellent communication in the booking proces and a polite helpful host.

Short summarize: this rental have not been properly cleaned for decades! When we arrived at this premium priced rental for a week of holiday and started to prepare dinner, we quickly realized that everything in the kitchen was greasy and dirty. Everything we touched left grease on our hands. So we first had to do the dishes to be able to use anything. That exposed next problem being that there were next to nothing available regarding common house hold utilities, for example dish soap. But given the status of the house and its owner that turned out to be expected. We immediatly called the house owner who came by and blamed the status of the houses to ”wear and tear” and that it was no point in cleaning since it would right away get dirty! He also yelled, while rubbing the shower floor with the used toilet brush(!), that we were liers and that there were no dirt. Well, anyone having normal eyesight would strongly disagree. Wear and tear is not equal to neglecting to clean. He also threatened to damage the floors and having us to pay for the repair of them. We loaded our package back into the car and left the rental the very same day we arrived after only 5 hours. This rental should be kicked out from any legit rental service. So our advice is to stay away from this rental.

Don't believe the website pictures of a pretty "Chalet" building, it's a motel by a motorway, very basic and not really what you would expect at the price. I suppose the location is good if you want to stay at the side of a road.

I was in Vaxjo to research my family ancestors.

I was in Vaxjo to research my family ancestors. I used the Emmigrant House resources. I was sorry the the Smaland museum was temporarily closed for renovations. It think it would be a great place to visit.

The town is a very quiet and low activity place on it's own...

The town is a very quiet and low activity place on it's own that has all the things you need, but nothing too absorbent. Surrounding the town there is a lot of nature and lakes that are definitely worth visiting, having drive around and going off the beaten track has lead us to nice hiking trails, beautiful sights and a very quiet surrounding that allowed us to relax and be one with nature, while in town still having everything we needed on our travel through. It's considered the "most boring" town in Sweden, it is, but that has it's benefits.

Nice place to stay after visiting Kalmar Castle & fort.

Nice place to stay after visiting Kalmar Castle & fort. Only saw Telesborg Slott propery where we stayed, but would have liked to explore Vaxjo more, especially the Swedish Glass Museum and nearby glass factories and galleries.
