"It is a small town. We rented a car and drove to Phuket (2.5hrs away) and the next day drove to Krabi (2.5 hrs away). Roads are windy so I recommend only skillful or experienced drivers to be behind the wheel. 7-11 is a blessing in KL. Their cheesy toast and chicken burger are really value for money. There is nothing much to see in KL per say except for the beach and the tsunami museum. Water activities are in abundance though."

Our stay at the Marriott Beach Resort & Spa in Khao Lak was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Everything exceeded our expectations and made for a truly unforgettable holiday. The breakfast was exceptional—incredibly varied, high-quality, and beautifully presented, with options for every taste, both Western and Asian. All of the resort’s restaurants are excellent, offering consistently delicious food and a great dining experience. The staff truly deserve special recognition. Everyone was friendly and professional, but Bob and his team at the reception desk stood out for their outstanding service. They were extremely helpful, attentive, and genuinely customer-focused, always ready to assist with a smile. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, providing everything you would expect from a top-tier Marriott resort. Relaxing by the Quiet Pool was wonderfully peaceful, perfect for unwinding. The beach is breathtakingly beautiful—pristine, expansive, and ideal for enjoying stunning sunsets. The surrounding area also offers some great dining options. There are several excellent local restaurants nearby, with Blue Sky being a definite must-visit. In short, this resort offers the perfect combination of luxury, comfort, and relaxation. We would highly recommend it and would love to return in the future!

We spent 7 nights there recently with our family (kids 6 and 4) and we loved it! There resort is stunning (like the pics) and the pools kept our girls entertained for large parts of the day but there was also lots of kids activities that we could book them in for as well. The restaurants were amazing , quality food for a very reasonable price, beach bar with live music in the evenings as the sun is setting. The fire shows were awesome on the beach. A huge breakfast buffet (who doesn't love breakfast buffets!) and much more - we will definitely be back! All of the staff were incredibly accommodating and the facilities were kept very clean. The nice team members who kept our room clean made different characters shaped with towels for the first 3-4 nights which our girls loved :)

This is my second visit to Avani + Khao Lak two years in a row. This is now my therapeutic retreat for me and my family. My kids are so in love with the place especially the kids club. I was so happy to see that most of the staff that I met last year are still at the resort and working tirelessly to keep up with all their guests’ requests. Please keep up this great work you’re all doing and I’ happy this year I was lucky to enjoy a less rainy weather and swam at the beach most of my stay.

Definitely I would like to comeback here in the future 🙌 Besides the wonderful scenery here,best place to see the beautiful sunset,and the lovely kittens…as well as the kind,helpful staff. There's another thing that impresses me about this place. Me and my husband had a little car accident when we just arrived. (Thanks god it was just a mild accident and nothing serious) but we were super upset and in shock. So here it is,once again I would like to give a big thank you to the manager of the resort. He is the kindest,warmest and the most empathetic person in the world. Without him we would not have been able to communicate with the local police and solve all the problems in a few hours. This was our second stay in a deluxe bedroom and it was fabulous yet again. Staff are welcoming and ever friendly. The lower pool is our fav, with the swim up bar. Very relaxing with comfy sun beds and plenty of umbrellas. The Leaf is only just a short stroll from the action of khaolak, but is beautifully quiet. It's amazing value for money and we will hopefully return.

Traditional, beautiful and peaceful. The staff is very friendly and smiley. We got a free upgrade to a bungalow, which was nice as unfortunately we were there for a monsoon season and were stuck indoors a lot of time, so the extra space and outside bathtub were a nice touch. The pool was also good, and the nature around the resort is well kept.

We loved this resort: it is a tropical paradise.

We loved this resort: it is a tropical paradise. While the beach is wonderful to walk on and gaze at, we found the gorgeous garden a real attraction. Unlike other resorts, Moracea is not set in a series of manicured lawns and some trees, it is nestled in a beautiful, lush and verdant garden which hosts many birds and other wildlife. The resort really makes good on its promise to care far the environment and takes measures to guarantee that the offerings have a minimal environmental impact. Toiletries are good quality and are in bottles that are refilled, fresh drinking water is provided on rooms and other places in order to minimise use of plastic. The staff were wonderful: reception staff were always keen to help us with a range of questions, the restaurant staff were efficient, friendly and welcoming, and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The breakfast room on the beach was terrific: food was fresh, of good quality and well organised. There are a several good local restaurants in easy walking distance, or a taxi into the main Khao Lak area was around $4 AUD. The only drawback might be the fact that it is on a hill, but we managed it (we are in our 70's and average fitness). The resort staff are aware of this potential issue and organised a lift for people to and from their rooms if needed. I highly recommend this place. Khao Lak itself is a lovely, sleepy, friendly place to pass some time and Moracea by Khao Lak is the perfect place to stay

Khao Lak is amazing😎so relaxing not like Patong , the beaches are stunning, traffic is so quiet we were shocked but pleasantly surprised, plenty of restaurants massage places shopping just not the busy night life, ideal for older couples

Khao Lak town is fine, has everything needed for eating out, bars, shopping. Just like every other Thailand resort we've visited. The area around the markets is the best location. You can also attend two different Muay Thai stadiums in the town. I'd recommend the Beyond stadium over the local stadium for quality events, although the local one gives you a close glimpse of local life!
