"Mardin old town is a remarkable destination - fabulous architecture, great shopping, many wonderful restaurants, and world renown historic sites nearby. We stayed at Fairouz Konak Otel, which we would highly recommend - it is a historic building in the heart of Mardin old town, within easy walking distance of many restaurants and stores, We were welcomed by our thoughtful host with delicious offerings of food and drink; he was able to answer all our questions about his city. The hotel was memorable for its charming rooms, fantastic panoramic views from many terraces, delicious breakfasts, and excellent host and staff, We highly recommend a visit to Mardin and a stay at Fairouz Konak Otel!"

The staff was amazing and welcoming and felt like an extended family. The hotel is absolutely stunning and is one of the oldest in the city and located in one of the first neighborhoods ever built. Very close to Balikli Göl and other tourist attractions. Breakfast is a traditional turkish breakfast and mouthwatering. We would definitely return.

Very historical and beautiful building with equally beautiful staff. The breakfast was lovely and despite a misunderstanding with rooms at the beginning, the staff quickly resolved and offered a free laundry service in return. They even hand washed my clothes when I asked for it to be cold water — not what I expected, but appreciated!

Me and my daughter had an amazing experience at the Carra Hotel. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. We were given lots of information about Mardin and where to visit which was a great help. The owner Mete arranged a taxi tour for us which was an incredible experience. The taxi driver Mehmet took us around for the entire day and was extremely knowledgeable of the area and knew the best places to go. The hotel itself was beautiful with a gorgeous traditional interior design. I highly recommend getting tea and sitting at the terrace, which offers a gorgeous view. Thank you to Yildiz and Bekir for the lovely breakfast and for being very friendly. Overall, our experience was 10/10 and we hope to make another trip in the future!

This was our second time in this hotel, and we will come the third time definotely. Located at the top of an old town, it has marvelous view to Mesopothamia. If you love old buildings that resemble old medieval times, this is right place for you. We loved many terraces and labyrinth of balconies, you feel like you are in Alladin. :)) Price is ok, it is clean, good breakfast. Staff is really nice and hospitable, especially my two favourite guys - the receptionist who was willing to help in the middle of the night and gave us room and Sheimuss who serves great breakfast and always smiling! :)) I totally recommend this property!

Mardius Konak is simply excellent. We were greeted by the owner who told us about the story of the Konak which was once their family mansion. Every detail in every corner of the facility reflects elegance, perfectionism and good taste. Breakfast and dinner is amazing, all with local products and recipies. Staying in Mardius Konak is truly a unique experience.

Nice and charming city in the eastern region of Turkey.

Nice and charming city in the eastern region of Turkey. We went there mostly to see the nearby Goblekitepe archeological site, but loved the city and his people. We recommend carefully choosing the time of your visit: we were there last July, and the weather was extremely hot.

Gaziantep is a fascinating city in southern Turkey, known as the country’s UNESCO‑recognised gastronomic capital and a place with a rich, layered history. The Zeugma Mosaic Museum left a particularly strong impression, while the iconic fortress was unfortunately closed for restoration during my stay. If you are looking for an authentic Turkish experience with a touch of the Levant, Gaziantep is the right choice. Foreign tourists are few, and the local people are exceptionally kind and welcoming. Despite limited English, communication is easy thanks to their warmth. The city also offers excellent day‑trip options, such as the Euphrates cruise to Rumkale or a visit to Göbekli Tepe.

Place with great history. The Old City is like an open air museum. Impressive city walls, bastilles, Ulu Cami, nearby must see Hevsel Gardens etc. It is also a great spot to easily reach Kahta Adiyaman, Ergani, Mardin by dirt cheap and comfortable buses. Strongly recommend for history freaks ;)

Poor Adiyaman was still suffering from the terrible physical and social consequences of the February 2023 earthquake! But it's a big, modern city and a good base for going to Nemrut Dag and the surrounding area. If you also want to explore Perre Antik Kent in detail, stay at least 2 full days.Still gastronomically complicated for Vegans.

Mount Nemrut is great.

Mount Nemrut is great. We took the advice of our hotel owner and went there for sunrise. The light is beautiful and soft. If you stay at Hotel Euphrat Nemrut you are very close to the best sites including Mount Nemrut. But also close to lots of other sites. And it has a gorgeous mountain feel and view. It felt a very Turkish experience and not over touristy.

The Archaeological Museum and Mosaic Museum, both available...

The Archaeological Museum and Mosaic Museum, both available on the same ticket, are exceptional. It is NOT TRUE that they are closed for repair at the moment (October 2025). There are other sights around the town, such as the Fish Ponds and some Roman graves, but these seem to appeal to domestic tourists most. The town is rapidly expanding and there are building sites around the outskirts, but the old town is charming, and there are guest houses and music venues held in the old buildings. The music event we went to consisted of Traditional live music from the region, a local banquet and the dancing was done by the audience. Most people were Turkish, very friendly and let their hair down, in spite of the 'no alcohol' rule! It isn't cheap though! The main reason we came was to see Gobeklitepi and other such sites scattered around Sanliurfa. They were more touristy than we'd realised, but still worth visiting .

Modern city.

Modern city. A bit chaotic but nice energy and friendly people. The bazaar area is huge. The sad part is that there is not a lot of historic buildings or areas. There is some - but not really a lot, which makes it doubtful to stay more than just a couple of days. If you are not really interested in the cuisine of course. Do NOT miss the mosaic museum. That one is unique and you will never see this qualityand quantity of antique mosaics anywhere else.
