Ryokans in Kawazu

Nice location walking distance to restaurants and shops while being on the beachfront. The room had a beautiful view of the beach and an amazing sunrise. Very spacious and comfortable with yummy local snack to try on arrival. Plenty of parking available.

The breakfast was superb. A mix of both Japanese and Western style food. An absolute treat, and delicious! The staff take a lot of care to provide you with a beautiful meal, finished with a lovely coffee or tea.

Kokoronodoka is nestled in the scenic hills above the stunning Imaihama Beach, just one station away from the famous Kawazu cherry blossoms. Its location is incredibly convenient—only a four-minute walk from the Imaihama-kaigan station. We stayed at this ryokan for two days and had an amazing experience. The manager personally attends to each guest with great care, offering a true showcase of Japanese hospitality. I highly recommend booking a room with an ocean view to make the most of the serene surroundings and enjoy a larger, better-insulated space. There are two private-use baths, each featuring both an indoor and outdoor section, allowing for a truly relaxing soak. Breakfast, served in the common dining hall at 8 a.m., was hearty and satisfying. However, I strongly recommend reserving the dinner in advance—it’s a full-course feast of local delicacies, including a beautifully arranged sashimi platter, fresh wasabi, flatfish crackers, and the region’s specialty, kinmedai simmered in soy-based nitsuke sauce. Dinner is served in your room at 6pm, allowing for a private and immersive ryokan dining experience. What truly sets this place apart is the warmth of the hospitality. We didn’t just enjoy our stay—we had engaging conversations, learned new things, and felt genuinely welcomed. The manager even offered to take photos of us without us asking, capturing beautiful moments of our trip. Both my husband and I left with the feeling of having stayed with family. We will definitely return in the future. For the best experience, I recommend having at least a conversational level of Japanese.

Our stay at Zen no Yu was a real highlight of our time in Japan. We had the kaiseki dinner the evening of our arrival and the breakfast in the morning. Both were excellent! Starting with reception, the whole experience of the inn, from the temple grounds to the quiet shared spaces to the provision of yukata, creates an atmosphere of serenity and relaxation. The onsens were clean and inviting--I especially enjoyed the open air bathing on the back deck. Plus, the reserved time in our own couples bath in the evening was fantastic! Highly recommended!

The location of the ryokan is nested the forest next to the Kawazu falls with the sound of the running river in the background, felt like we were part of this nature. We had the larger room with 2 washrooms, 2 outdoor onsen tubs, and one foot bath. Beverages and snacks were included, meals were fantastic. In their survey I gave them 11 out of 10 score. The most incredible experience and I will definitely recommend and return.

It’s nicely located next to other onsen hotels, the sea and a few restaurants and shops. The onsen was pretty okey and overall staff were nice and helpful. The breakfast offered is a fancy Japanese style set that features local fresh fish and was very good. We didn’t try the dinner option.

The private onsens were lovely. Yes, the view of the ocean is partially blocked by another building, but it's still lovely. Extensive breakfast, comfy tatami rooms with Western beds.

Great location, easy parking. Room was large and clean. Liked the rooftop onsen and option for private onsens. Friendly, helpful staff (limited English for foreigners, but everyone tried their best to help!). Free coffee drinks and filtered water in the lobby. Family friendly - my 3-year old loved the kids play room.

The staff was absolutely amazing! They were so kind, generous and helpful! The location was fantastic and you can use the shower even after checking out. The room is very basic, but it was clean. You have to bring your own towels, but it’s not a major inconvenience. The building and outdoor seatings were pretty and relaxing. We love the big outdoor shower in the back of the indoor showers.

The tatami rooms were spacious and comfortable with nice futon beds. The room temperature is adjustable. They have public onsen or reserved private ones to choose from with ocean views. They also have parking and a shuttle service from the station to the hotel. The staff were very kind and helpful. They were quick to respond on messages through the app for any questions.

The breakfast was delicious, and had a great variety of options. The service was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The hotel was beautiful, and the décor was modern and stylish. We had a great stay and would stay here again.

This is an older ryokan with onsen. We enjoyed the quiet as well as the baths (which we had mostly to ourselves), especially the outdoor one under a full moon. The 2 meals we had were traditional and both excellent with tasty seafood dishes. Our room overlooked a central garden pond with a view of the hillside above. We slept wonderfully. This is an unusual stay in a location with an active past, now faded, like stepping into an old film where the guests have left. Facilities described are from previous decades and it feels like going back in time. Still, our tatami room opening onto nature was just what we wanted.

Wonderful hospitality. Cosy family home feel, very friendly and attentive hosts.The dinner and breakfast are worth having at least once. The private onsens are great.
