Ryokans in Zaō Onsen

We think the food and rooms are amazing. We also loved the public baths

A nice ryokan with a nice onsen. Very hospitable staff. The free milk/coffee/pudding service at the lounge is a nice touch, especially the fresh milk is very creamy and delicious. They served the famous Zao beef for dinner which was delicious. The room is huge and comfortable with all the amenities

The hosts are amazing and incredibly friendly and helpful.

The staff was very kind, as expected from a family owned ryokan. The bath area is small, but you schedule your personal bath time. Food is incredible, a must try when visiting Zao. Location is near the main attractions, like the cable car is reachable by walking. Lots of nearby onsens.

Beautiful quiet location with some great baths and access to skiing in the area. The meals with local ingredients were exceptional and the beddings were one of the most comfortable we've had.

+ brand new facility + brilliant location, right next to Yokokura Slope No.23, where you could meet most of the lesson instructors there. + convenient unmanned check in procedures. + got a new rack and storage spaces for snowboards, helmet and boots. + free car park in front of the property.

Zao Shiki no Hotel was perfect. The staff were kind, approachable and helpful. The attention to detail/ cleanliness was exceptional. Our room was spacious, clean, warm and we loved the sweet treats, massage chair and the bath with a view of the snow. Breakfast catered to all tastes and was so convenient. The hotel is located within 5-10 minutes of town, only a short walk, and we found it very easy each day to walk to the chair lift. Google maps wasn’t often very accurate about which restaurants were open, so we quickly put our phones away and enjoyed walking the snowy town, finding hidden gems, which were always easy to walk to the hotel from. Ski hire and storage was also so great. We loved our week in Zao and could not recommend staying at Zao Shiki more!!!

My friend and I recently stayed at this newly opened accommodation, and it was a fantastic experience. The host was incredibly friendly and made us feel completely at home throughout our stay. The facilities are excellent, featuring everything you could need, including a traditional onsen—a perfect way to relax after a day of exploring or skiing. The room was spacious, and the futon bed was extremely comfortable. The location is unbeatable! Situated on the historical Takayu Street, it’s surrounded by charming shops, restaurants, and onsens. It’s also super convenient for skiing enthusiasts—just a 7-minute walk to Zao Base Center Jupeer, Uwanadai Slope, and Zao Chuo Ropeway. Plus, the Zao bus terminal is only 3 minutes away on foot. Don’t miss the restaurant “Ringoya” on-site, which serves absolutely delicious food.

Our room was absolutely amazing, we got the suite with onsen on the veranda. The onsen on the top floor had a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. The dinners were delicious and the souvenir shop had a nice selection of goods. Interior design of the hotel was very interesting, fun to explore. Overall service was impeccable, very friendly and helpful staff.

our stay was wonderful! we pretty much enjoyed everything, starting from the warm greetings with little snack and hot ocha to start with, the room has the best view, the meal was fantastic and we like it so much! the facilities both indoor onsen and outdoor onsen was fantastic we truly enjoyed our 3d2n stay and planning to come back again!

The staff was extremely kind and helpful. The food was amazing, some of the best meals we ever had. The onsen was very relaxing and spacious. All in all an amazing experience that we will cherish!
