The property is a traditional Japanese building very well maintained and conveniently located. It’s 2-story with bathroom and toilet downstairs, kitchen and room upstairs. Not only the kitchen is well equipped, the kitchenware is in good quality. We felt very welcome by the hosts. They were so kind to pick us up from the airport and offered excellent service we need. It’s really a very pleasant experience staying here.

The highlight of our trip! The hosts were very welcoming and responsive. They have made a magical home in the hills here, beautifully nestled beside the forest and farm fields (and our young daughter was convinced Totoro was in the trees). The traditional building itself was amazing to see and it has been restored with so much love. The location is ideal. It’s a short drive to places like Yamanaka and grocery stores are easily accessible while also feeling very far away. The amenities were great. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and pots and pans. The bathroom was great. I particularly loved that there was a toddler sized toilet and low sinks for our daughter. The futon beds were the most comfortable of our entire trip. They were so plush and we slept well with the heaters on during our late autumn stay. And there was plenty of bedding and toys and equipment for my baby too! I think they have done something really wonderful by making this home and community in the hills!

Kontani-san is the most caring host we met on our 3 week adventure in Japan and the house has an unforgettable character! He gave us plenty of local recommendations on where to eat and where to go (also created custom made itinerary for us) and was always open for our questions. Thanks to him we were able to get to know Japanese culture a little deeper. We had lovely tastings with him in the sake bar which is also located in the house and will never forget this stay!
